I think a piece of ice fell of a plane at 35,000' and smashed through your hood, in to the intake manifold, creating a massive boost leak.

Short of having metaphysical powers it is unlikely anyone is going to know what the problem is. The first step is to check the code and related freeze frame data and then post that. With data we can help, and if you want professional advice email that data over to BMS.

I am looking at a CPO '07 335i and have just picked up on the hpfp issues and limp modes from this forum so 1> thank you for the info. 2> The one in question has an 04/07 in service date, so while everything else looks great, I have concerns now. Has the HPFR issue been resolved by NA? Would they let one with issues pass through CPO? How do I know if this car has had issues? How do I know if it does or does not have the oil cooler?

Thanks in advance.

1> Welcome on board...
2> The HPFP issue has not, and probably will not be resolved by BMWNA, they are just content to offer you a 10yr, 120k mile warranty on the HPFP's...
3> Yes they will let it pass through CPO, they don't care (more or less)
4> CarFax it if your worried about issues, or ask to see the maintenance records from the dealer (GL with that)
5> Does the vehicle have the sport package? If so you should see a vent I believe on the passenger side wheel well (or is it driver side) and a cooler on the other side of that vent.

6> THe most important answer is Search... it is your friend...

Thanks.

CarFax is clean, although I don't necessarily trust CarFax (I have two rear end collissions on my current Infiniti that went through insurance that do not appear). But, if I do have faith in it and the maintenance records come back clean, because it is an early delivery '07, do I assume I this one is "ok" because it already has 20k miles on it, or do I just take it for granted that it is just a matter of time. I guess the question is, how widespread was the issue? All you see are those that had issues, there are no posts saying, I don't have HPFP issues (duh).

No sport package. Only downside. Otherwise mint if I can get over the HPFP thing. I assume that I can get an aftermarket one.

As yet there are no HPFP but if they ever do become available, it will be christmas early for a lot of people, for a lot of different reasons (esp if it can push more fuel).

Depending on your driving and conditions, it would seem that most people really want an oil cooler so you should really be sure the car has it or does not. As stated earlier, check the passenger's front tire area and you can see it venting into the wheel well area.

No aftermarket one at this point, but you never know.

Im at about 24k with no issues (some members have gone as far as 40-50k with no HPFP failure, so it's really a crap shoot when it comes to these things.

IF the HPFP is gonna keep you from purchasing a great performing car, then so be it... I bought this without even knowing about the HPFP, but it's not keeping me from driving it, or enjoying it... If it happens, it happens... If it doesn't, it doesn't...

Nope - just needed to feel better about it. Just called the dealer and put the deposit down, on my way out to pick it up.

I had the same random limp mode issues, I took the jb3 off and they were still there after testing to see if I could reproduce the limps again. Took it in to my BMW SA yesterday, said they will most likely replace the hpfp. Still waiting to hear back on a status from them.

afv if the car does not have the sport package it most likely does not have an oil cooler. you should see if you can get the dealer to add the oil cooler retrofit as a no cost option.
