a few questions on the 335i

Well I am about to take delivery of a 335i sedan and have a few questions.

- I have the Msport package, can i use 17" rims for the winter tires or must it be 18"...Any good recommendations as to where to buy it locally? or is ordering from Tirerack the best deal? Any problems with using winter tires that are not RFT? does the 09 e90's have the TPMS on the rims?

- I don't have the executive package...does that mean my car does not come with any car alarm???

- who makes the Stereo system in the Audiophile package? I know they use the Dirac Live technology? but who manufactures the unit? The Logic7 is made by HarmanKardon...But I can't find anywhere that states who makes the BMW Individual Sound system.

thats it for now...the waiting part is hardest....argh!!!

Tirerack for winter wheels/tires

Yes you should have TPMS (not like it is too hard to transfer) or buy new

Yes you can put 17" rims on. Tirerack is your best bet. Either that or try to find something used locally on this board or craigslist etc. Canada cars have no TPMS. Nope you don't have an alarm.

That's about all I can answer.

I don't see the alarm as an option...so the only way to have a car alarm on the 335 is by ordering the Executive package???

What has people been doing about getting the alarm installed after the fact?

you can purchase the alarm seperately - for pre LCI anyways - you can get one from the US, much cheaper than the stealership prices

That is correct, u can only get the alarm if u get the executive pkg for LCI models. I had to order all the options (M sport, Executive, audiophile, navi) cuz they wouldn't let me break up the options and choose individually

BMW Canada cheaped out - we have indirect tire pressure monitoring via the ABS sensors. On the positive side you save a some bux on a winter set since you don't need the sensors.

Consensus seems to be go non-RFT, throw in a can of goo and an electirc inflator courtesy of Crappy Tire or equivalent.

TireRack will drop 4 mounted winter tires on 17" alloys at your door, all duties, taxes and shipping included, for cheaper than your local BMW dealer will sell you a set of tires on steel rims.

The Airman Tire Repair Kit is a good one http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...pair%2BKit.jsp.
You can buy sealant refills separately from Canadian Tire as well (although I can't find it online, I've seen it in store here in Ottawa).

get the alarm from the dealer. prices to buy and install range from $250 to $900 at some stealerships.

Or buy an alarm from the US, tischer bmw ($200 ish), and have the canadian dealership install it for you. make sure you tell them you bought it from a canadian dealership otherwise they will invent new fees nobody has ever heard of.

!
Canadian 335's do NOT have TPMS, regardless of what Tire Rack says (they have US spec cars that have TPMS.) I went with 17" Rial Solerno rims with Blizzack RFTs.

The alarm is a dealer added option.

Did you order the Rial and Blizzacks from Tirerack? how was the brokerage and duty fees?

What about the wheel size? size down 1 to 17" or stick with the 18" rims?
my 2009 335i has the 18" rims, that I will use for the summer.

I'm going to get 17" winters for my new 335i. The only dilemma is whether to go with 205mm or 225mm. What's the consensus here?

Tirerack will quote duty, shipping and canadian taxes directly. With the dollar above .90 it's a pretty compelling argument.

I'm in the dilemma - 205 or 225s. The 335i's putting down so much torque I'm leaning to the 225s, despite the "thinner is better" winter mantra. Tirerack's configurator actually recommends 205.

I ordered a square setup of 235/40/18 LM22 from Tirerack. Rims I got a set of Kosei. With this combo, I can't wait for the winter to arrive. X-drive + snows =

205 is way too narrow for this car. I'm running 225/40/18 on 189's with LM25's all around and 15mm spacers in the rear. Looks decent and does the trick.

TireRack rules

TireRack is definately the way to go if you need tires and rims. No one in Canada can beat them. Costco is the only one I've ever found that comes close. Tirerack's website will even let you see what different rims look like on your car....kewl.

I have 17" Sport Edition (tirerack's house brand) 5-spokes on my 335 for winter. Cost less than 1/2 of what the Stealership wanted for a set of winter rims/tires. About 1/3 less than the local tire place. I unse normal (non-run-flat) tires and have no problems...once I re-set the tire monitors.
