The E90 3-series is the benchmark of 4-door sports sedans. Where's the E92 rank?

I always see car reviewers raving on amazing the 4-door 3 series has been all of these years, but I don't see as many people talking about the coupe version. Where does the E92/BMW 3-series coupes in general stand in terms of other sport coupes? Is it also the benchmark, or is there another car that people compare to?

There is a lot of competition in the "Sport Coupe" category ranging from Hyundai Genesis, Honda Accord, etc.(at the low end) to Jaguar XKR, Aston Martin, Maserati Grand Sport, Bentley GT. etc. at the high end. Against its most direct competition (Audi, Infiniti, etc.) I think the 3 Series may very well be the bench mark.

I really don't differentiate the coupe from the sedan in terms of handling/performance because they are so similar.

I guess it's direct competitor would be something like a G37 coupe, TT coupe, or a 370Z. The Z would probably have edge in handling over the e92. one could even argue that the corvette coupe would be a competitor if you consider price.

Good point. The main difference between the 2 door and the 4 door is one of aesthetics and the share the same good (and bad?) qualities. The differentiation between, sports coupes, sports cars, GT cars, sport sedans, etc. has become extremely nebulous.

From what I have read the automotive press seems to feel that there have been a number of competitors to the 3 Series but the 3 series has remained the benchmark.
