Fuel delivery problems

Just picked my car up from the dealer thinking they would have replaced the HPFP due to the fact that all the symptoms pointed to it failing:

Long cranking
Surging at moderate throttle
Rough idle

Customer service associate told me that the problem was a failed fuel pressure regulator and they rebuilt it using a factory repair kit since BMW didn't recommend actually replacing it.

For those of you who have had this issue... should I still be concerned?... and is a pump failure imminent?

What has been your experience with the dealer?? Seems like most had this issue resolved by replacing the HPFP
