Could it be the dreaded HPFP????
A beautiful Sunday morning.
I got into the car and pressed the Star button. All I got was a long crank and the car would not start. I am calling the Road side assistance to see if they can tow this manure wagon to the nearest dealer. Has anyone experienced this craptacular phenomenon???? Thank you. |

All the symptoms of an imminent HPFP failure started a week ago for me at 22,500 km:
-- long crank after sitting for a few hours -- rough idle -- surging at moderate throttle in first two gears Taking into dealer on Tuesday. They said it sounds like fuel pump and will need to keep car for two days-- fortunately a loaner is available. |

From what I read so far, there are symptoms.
In this case, I am totally blindsided. I mean....just starting the car....long crank but unable to start. I was driving the car the night before. |

That is one reason i don't plan on hanging on to the 335 past its lease. i just don't trust BMW to fix the pump issues, it will be cheaper for them to just send "new" faulty pumps to replace the failed pumps.

I had the long crank symptom as well. Dealer replaced it last week. It took one day. I have 25,000 kms.
The car actually feels more sluggish right now. Not sure if the car is re-learning my driving style. I'm thinking of asking the dealer to upgrade the software if it doesn't get better. I do believe all 335's will experience this problem eventually. |

Yep could be the HPFP. Sunoco gasolines contains up to 10% ethanol (they have their own ethanol production). Gasolines containing ethanol have been linked to HPFP failures.
I do not have hard scientific data but I keep seeing HPFP failures on cars that are running ethanol blended gasolines cars. Ethanol is not as widely used outside the US and the rate of HPFP failures is much higher in the US. Shell V-Power 91 is ethanol free.
