Rear Camera/Reverse Lights

Aloha!

I'm installing a rear camera in my e91 and was hoping to take a short cut. I mounted the rear camera next to the license plate and have routed the wire inside the rear hatch. I have an Audiovox wireless transmitter that I can use to send the video to the video line in on my new JVC KDAVX-77. The JVC also uses a reverse light sensor to automatically switch to the rear camera.

Is there a way I can tap into the reverse light without running a wire to the light itself? I'm hoping to tap into the light towards the front of the car. Preferably close to the HU.

On the other hand, if I have to run the wire, I might as well run the wire for both the video and the reverse light.

Mahalo!

I'm thinking there's no way around tapping into the light at the rear. Sucks because there's no easy way to route the wire up to the HU.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you're saying you don't know where/how to tap into your reverse light?
You can find out the color of the reverse light wire by look at the reverse light harness, take note of the color of the wire, I think you can tap it there or tap it from behind the liner on the side right behind the back seat, that's where I find my reverse light wire, but I have e90 and you have the wagon, don't know if they are the same.

That's not correct. I know how to tap into them in the rear. I'd rather avoid that and tap into them somewhere under the dash if possible.

Do you an automatic? If so you may want to take a look at the M5 auto shifter mod thread.

Looks like I can tap into the wires under the shifter. I'll give it a try this weekend.

(OFF Topic)

Do you have pictures of your AVX77 installed? I'm installing the same stereo in my '06 E90, and am curious what it's gonna look like. Also, any problems hooking it up?

No problems hooking it up. Just used the wiring harness I got from Crutchfield. I also got a Connect2 PDC adapter. It worked but the volume on the PDC was WAY too loud and could not be adjusted (if anyone knows how, please let me know). I ended up taking out the Connect2 and just use my reverse camera.

I'll take some pictures when I get home tonight.

Hopefully mine will be here tomorrow. I am also hooking up the SWI-CAN2 and SWI-JACK so I can keep my steering wheel controls. I plan on doing a little DIY about hooking up the peripherals, since I haven't seen anyone do one yet.

I still have those modules on my work bench. Were they easy to put in?

Easy to put in "yes"
To get working "NO"

I haven't got them working yet. I'm going to reattempt it this weekend. I've got everything wired in, but I might have the CAN wires backwards.

Let me know how it goes. I was going to do it but then didn't want to program all the buttons etc. Plus, it's my wife's car and she hasn't noticed the buttons not working yet!
