AA ECU Flash
For those that have done the AA ECU flash at BimmerSport (or via AA directly) - how configurable was the experience? I've never done an ECU flash and don't know much about the process but it seems there are options you can ask for when the flash is being done. If so - can you guys elaborate (or correct) on that assumption?
I've ordered a few AA items including the X-Pipe and Exhaust which I'm hearing contradictions on that the flash is necessary to prevent the CEL issue but I figure I'll do it anyway to finish off the package. Thanks. |

You need the ECU to avoid a CEL with the hfc or cat delete. I belive it has to do with a test for cat readiness that the ECU does. They throw a CEL unless you mod the programming
I did mine right through AA, 3 day turnaround. Sent it down Wed and had it back Friday. No problems at all. Let me know what else you need to know |

From what I've read, even current lambda adapter solutions are not eliminating the CEL issue(US/Canadian Spec cars have this issue). However, it's being worked on by certain companies. Many suggest going with the AA software to eliminate this problem all together; believe it has something to do with lowering the threshold of the o2 sensor.
As far as flashing goes, thanks to that group buy they had earlier, it's now readily available in Toronto, instead of having to ship it out. |

Maybe another group buy would be helpful if there enough interested parties. Seems I'll have to get mine done as I'm going with the AA catless x-pipes. Overall from reading SlammedM3's comments, it seems it's a great all around modificiation so don't look at it just as a CEL fixer. |

I can confirm that my AA flash has allowed my top speed to be unlimited.

Hmm... interesting thread.
I'm no where near Toronto but my biggest concern is being without my M3 for a prolonged experience. I've heard some guys getting their ECU back from AA within 3-4 days and others having to wait MUCH longer. Not blaming Active Autowerke, just the shipping details. If I can ship off to Toronto... or maybe I'll just drive over and make a vacation of it... I'll definitely be talking to BimmerSport about this.

Have AA HFC with X-pipe & no CEL. ECU has not been flashed.

Had mine throw a CEL over the weekend - about a week after installation. Similar to SparkyG's comments - I went for a hard 2 hour drive to the cottage and I had the CEL thrown due to "Increased Emissions". I don't have the HFC but the ECU is capable of removing this. I'm taking mine back to have the programming looked into as it shouldn't have thrown the CEL. Nothing performance wise - just another light on the dash.
