Nasty noise from steering wheel?

Hello. I own a 2008 E93 M3 and I have about 2000kms on it. I've started to notice a nasty squeaking or rubbing noise when I turn the steering wheel clockwise at low speeds.

Anybody have any ideas what could be causing this? Low power steering fluid?

That'd be my first guess, so start there; it's easy enough to do, and one of the few fluid levels you can actually check on this car. Good luck.

had this in my e90 330i, they had to replace some bushing or something in the steering column, i think there was a service bulletin on it. not sure if it applies to 08s

I took it in for my 2000K service and they say they found nothing wrong. Power steering fluid was full. I'm just going to leave it for now and see what happens.

I'm wonding if it could be the spring shifting around in the strut tower?

There are problems with silver brake rotor plates (the ones behind the rotors), which you probably have, but they supposedly only make crackling noises while cornering aggressively, and they're probably not as loud as you described.

Your best bet is to find a way to duplicate them if they become more prevalent; otherwise you'd be wasting your time at a dealer. And yes, it's probably a part of the strut, but tech must confirm it. Good luck.

Your probably right. I'm not going to stress it. This is probably one of the best engineered cars in the world. I'll wait it out and we'll see what happens. Of course I will be sure to report my findings back to the forum for everyone elses benefit.
