BMW portable dvd system

To anyone having experience with the roof-mounted portable dvd system:

Can you tell me if it is blocking the rear mirror sight when folded down?

It is not that expensive but I do not see why you would need one on a 3-series. If it was an X3, I would understand.

Was afraid of that ... have you seen this in person? I was under the assumption that the bottom of the screen, if angled enough towards the front of car, would make it just above the rear view mirror. Is that not the case?

Why would it be a better fit for the X3? I believe it is the only OEM rear seat dvd option available for the E90.

You asked for personal experience. I have this installed in our car for my son. Essentially renders the inside rear view mirror useless for me. Maybe a different seating position may help, but I really doubt it.

Let me be clear because down and up could be confused with closed and open. Down, being open and watchable, it is impossible to see back through the interior rear view mirror. Up/closed/not in use it is a clear view back through the mirror.

You can tilt it farther forward, (I understand your question now,) but then you wouldn't have a good view from the back seat. It would have to be angled way too much to clear the rearview mirror. Note that the mirror is just a couple of inches from the top.

I can drive without the mirror. You just have to be more careful. If you are not comfortable driving without it then I'm not sure if it's a good idea for you. When someone else drives the car, ie. my father, (read older,) I tell my son that he needs the mirror...

That's why I went with headrest monitors.
I get a peaceful ride and the kids are happy watching movies.

What headrest monitors do you have installed? Are they OEM?

They are two Alpine 6.5" TMEM-770 headrest screens flush mounted in black leatherette headrests.

Thanks for posting. I had a similar solution in my previous E46, but was not completely satisfied with it, because I could not angle the headrests properly for the driver and front seat passenger without disturbing the rear rear seat video viewing.

I would prefer a solution like the BMW DVD Advanced option where the monitors are integrated in back of the rear seat - but this option is only available for the 5 and 7 series. Besides, it also looks a little clumpsy

The roof mounted dvd player might be the right solution after all ... I'm just not keen on the fact that it will be blocking my rear view mirror.

Thanks for you input, guys!
