E90 335i. Engine light

Hey guys
my bro was driving my car last night He engine light came on. shut the car off and it was gone.. .however upon start again he said that the car had some rough idling.

anyone know whats going on here?

My car mods
stock intake
JB3 v1.22 (always running low boost map)
