Competition for the Alpine PDX-5

Check this out from JL Audio:

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/jlaudio_pages.php?page_id=273

A big plus is that it can take 4 channels and still output the sub channel unlike the PDX which requires all inputs.

What is your point? How is it better than the Alpine PDX-5? How is it worse? Please elaborate.

Go read about it on JL's site and the site of the company licensing them their HD Class D technology, if you're interested. Should outperform the PDX amps.

Would it be possible/safe to connect 2 SWS-8 subs up in parallel to the sub output?

Per the website: 500W x 1 @ 1.5 - 4 ohms (Subwoofer Channel)

Simple math, really:
Two 4 ohm SWS-8 wired in parallel = 2 ohm mono = ok
Two 2 ohm SWS-8 wired in parallel = 1 ohm mono = not ok

Two 2-ohm in series = OK.

But they are all in Mono and with a crossover point that needs to be high to meet the 4"s, I still think this is a mistake...

The JL amp should be better than the PDX-5. The PDX-5 isn't bad, but the input requirements are a bit stupid and the bass performance isn't as good as it should be.

JL makes great amps.

I had the HD750, but returned it, didn't like how it sounded in my car, but couldn't be happier with the 1000/1 that I got in exchange.

I heard the PDX at the store, but liked the JL amps more, maybe I'm biased?

Either way, th
