anyone knows if my choice is right?
bought a set of 18'' breyton GTS silver rims but not arrived yet.
i want to make the rear rims wider but the dealer said mine E90 is not sport package and it's AWD and better use the same size for 4 rims.. size 18 x 8.5 225/40/18 i hate the rear is so narrow.. is it possible to install the wider rims at the rear than the front on a 09 E90 xi base model? The suspension setup for the 328xi and 335xi are identical whether it's sport or non-sport models (unless they changed it for 2009, which I doubt)
I have a set of OEM 162 stye 18" wheels for winter, and I just use 225/40/18 for tires front and rear (wheels are 8 front and 8.5 rear). No issues here. I do however have a set of 19" summers that's the same all around, but I regret not going staggered. A few members with xi models are running staggered setups in Toronto, and no one have reported problems so far. If you just want to push the wheels out a little, jsut get spacers, otherwise, just get wider rears. Take a look at the xi forum or the wheels/tires forum, you should be able to confirm it should be fine. However, the rear is wider on the 09' models so depending on what wheels, you may rub if you lower the car.

Another note, you just need to make sure the actual rolling diameter for the front and rear are either idential or close to each other (supposedly less than 1% according to some members in the forum), then you should be ok.

Dealers and generally tire shops that don't know anything will tell you to run the same size all around if you drive an AWD vehicle. Doesn't have to be that way. Personally I run an 18" 162 (8 all around) with a 235 tire all around as well. I would of prefered staggered but got a great deal on the rims/tires so i'm not one to complain. I just threw on some 15mm spacers in the rear to somewhat compensate.

See whether you can find 18x8.5 /9 size wheels that give ur car a little bit more aggressive look or install a pair of spacers as previously mentioned by another member.

I have an xi and it came with 162 staggered 18s (255 rear) so of course you can do staggered and there is no diff sport or no sport for xi suspension
look up OEM sport tire sizes for xi I also put 15" spacers in the rear - looks much better - (no drop yet tho ) |
