Vehicle Enchancement Products
I just bought a 3 series this weekend and now I will have to decide whether I should opt for the enhancement products...
-3M stone guard which will cost $500 -Anti Rust Module and Paint Protection $1100 -Run Flat protection for $999 Do you guys think that the Anti Rust Module is a good buy? Or should I just do Rust Checks every so often? Is it cheaper to do the stone guard clear bra outside of bmw? Please give your opinions=] thanks |

fyi: BMWs come with 12 yrs of rustproof warranty.
Tire package seems a bit steep. It would have to cover more than 3 tires to pay off. 3M Stone guard? Like a clearbra? Expeeeeeensive....

yeah they said theres like 10 or 12 years or rustproof..But they mentioned how it only covers the rust from inside to outside not from outside to inside. So they kinda said how salt from the road will damage the car outside to the inside making that not covered from the warrenty.
In addition, they said the clear bra is only on the hood. So no bumpers and side mirrors. So its very expensive then eh? |

$999 for tire warranty??
I paid like $799 for mine and I got mine in Feb 2008 delivery. And from what I hear... you can negotiate on the price. Also... some have gotten it as cheap as < $500 |

I got the clear bra for $325 from Marco who is on this board (I think) He did the hood, fenders and the mirrors. As far as the rust module goes, I've heard it's a bit of a scam .... |

I was told by the sales that tire insurance price just keeps going up.
In my opinion people in Ontario should get as much rust proofing as they can get. I lived on Ottawa for five years and my car at the time was covered in rust underneath and in the engine area! |

Tire insurance is insurance which means, like any other kind of insurance, you are, on average, better without it than with it: they only make money if you pay more for the insurance than they pay out in claims. In general, if you can afford to replace something out of pocket, you shouldn't bother insuring it, unless you think, for some reason, you are more accident prone than the average driver, or that the BMW folks who set the rates don't know what they're doing. In the long run, it will be cheaper to just put some money aside for all of the various things that can go wrong in life: it's cheaper than buying insurance or an extended warranty for every thing that can break or be damaged and set you back a few hundred dollars for replacement. Plus, if you don't have insurance, you don't have to worry about whether your claim will be honoured if and when you have to make it.
The only reasons I can think of for insuring something like tires are that it will bring you peace of mind (and nobody but you can put a price on that) or that you don't trust yourself to keep enough savings on hand to replace things when they break or fail. Otherwise, insurance is strictly for things you can't afford to replace if they're lost, damaged, or destroyed. |

That is a really good deal, when I got my quote, it was like 500 for each item! Though I have to admit he said my bumper would have to be custom.

The rustproofing price seems really high as well. If you really want rustproofing I would suggest you get it done yourself at somewhere like Krown or the like as it will be a lot cheaper.

Here are my 2 cents, I took delivery on Feb 24, 2009.
- yes to the stone guard, however do it outside of BMW. I had my front bumper, headlights, fog lights, 24" inches up my hood, fenders, mirrors wrapped with ventureshield for $600. - no to the rustproofing, the cars comes with 12 years from the factory. - tire protection is dealer specific, if you call around you can get cheaper prices, this is one of those piece of mind purchases. |
