Copy and pasted for the BMW CCA LA event going at the end of this month:
On behalf of the BMW CCA LA Chapter I have organized a full weekend of driving fun for April 25 and 26. Starting on Saturday the 25th we meet at Long Beach BMW at 11:00 to start a TSD (Time Speed Distance) Rally. This event ends at the Aloft Hotel in Rancho Cucamonga about 4 hours later. We have a block of rooms reserved at the Aloft for a rate of $75 (but Starwood members get 1,000 points).

Sunday April 26 is the first auto-x of the 2009 season. This event is being held at Auto Club Speedway (AKA California Speedway) which is about 6 miles from the hotel. The auto-x is $75 which includes the entry fee for the Rally, and lunch. I am excited to announce that Hooters is catering the auto-x! Yes, they ARE sending servers to the event!!!

To register please see http://www.bmwclubla.org

You do not have to drive a BMW or be a member of BMW CCA. Newbies are encouraged! Instructors will be available all day at the auto-x so this is a great place to get started in the sport!

RSVP'd Yes: 1
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Awesome. I am only doing auto-x as well that sunday, but I'll be running in X-class.

I've never done autocrossing - can someone give me a quick rundown of what's involved? Do you need previous instruction/experience?

Just make sure your maint/tires/brakes are all good, and just come out. There will be instructors there, and you'll learn more in that day than you will probably have in all of your previous years of driving.

the event is super novice friendly. Great people. Lots of smiles. Come on out and meet your new friends.

seriously, just show up with gas in the tank. I'll help you adjust your tire pressure, and torque your wheels. The club will rent you a helmet. Lunch is provided.

yes. At an autocross.

not at a big track with the bmwcca. Other clubs will allow an open top, no roll protection at a big track.

Show up and watch us all get schooled by a 535.

Yes. Come out. You'll be surprised, there are more first timers out there at each/every event than you'd think.

Auto-x is a relatively low speed, very safe way to probe the limits of your car and your skills. All you need is to show-up with a good attitude and the desire to learn. Your car must have 4 safe tires (no threads showing), battery secured appropriately, decent glass, seat belts and a safely working throttle. In our modern cars those are almost never a problem.

You will learn a LOT at an auto-x and become a much safer driver. DO IT!!!!

Yes, convertibles are allowed at auto-x!

As for the 535, Ed Shen is a great driver. But note that I beat him last time!!!
