Wanted: Thoughts from Lemon Interior Owners

If anyone has taken delivery of their E90 with a lemon interior; I would be very interested to know what your thoughts on the maintenance of the lemon interior will be. My thought (and I think most peoples) are that it looks great.

BUT we would now like to know what you think a few weeks into your purchase. Is it way too delicate?, okay?, and have you had any marks? Any regrets? Are you getting too pre-occupied looking after the interior? etc etc

Also, could you please advise if the colour of the Lemon is actually what is shown in the small swatch in the small 3 Series brochure that is available at dealers or is it lighter or darker.

Thanks - your thoughts are appreciated - it will help in the decisio making process for my interior (down to Black or Lemon)

Hey James..one of the dealers here has a "show car" with a lemon interior..Here they call it something else, like Arctic or something I think...Anyway, it IS absolutely beautiful..And the only "trouble spots" I see, are the headrest (obviously) and right near the kick plate...somepeople get in the car with dirty clothes and what not, so obvioulsy these cars will get dirtier faster..but I was in Japan last year, and EVERYONE has like a similar color bandana wrapped neatly around each headrest and they scotchguard the interior as soon as they get a car...and it seems to work!

I am just as scared as you are because I am getting my first car with a beige interior..I have always had black, but the wife and I wanted to try something new...So ill let you know in a few weeks how hard it really is to keep clean!! Im sure my 6 year old will help me out!!

no problems with lemon

I have had my lemon interior for just over a month now with no problems. Any scuffs or marks have cleaned up easily with a damp rag so far. Most of the cleanup issues are where the feet go (floor mat and below door) and both of these areas are black. they clean up well too.

i hav the same dillema as yours, if you have a kid or a child id say go for the black or gray, but if your driving alone or jus your wife ou can go beige., the beige is easy to clean but harder to maintain.

I've had my E90 with Lemon interior for just over a year now. It's not that difficult to maintain. I clean it about once a month. It gets dirty on the side bolster and the thigh bolster of the drivers seat. Otherwise it's fine! The dirt comes off very easily. I'd order it again in a heartbeat!

My 4 y/o mostly messes up the windows with fingerprints and the occassional shoe print on the seat or the back of the front seat. I keep the armor all handi wipes for leather in the car for quick detailing.

I have had my lemon interior for 3 months and, despite predelivery worries, am very pleased with how easy it is to keep clean, at least compared to the beige I had on my e39 530d. You need to be careful with the seats (e.g. never wear a leather jacket on them, especially in the winter with heated seats), but they can easily be cleaned. I use Mer cleaner & conditioner and it works a treat. The main advantage of lemon over beige is that most of the rest of the interior is black and this doesn't show the dirt so much. The beige plastic gets scuff marks all over it. Also - but this is subjective - I am finding that beige is starting to look a bit 'last century' now. As was said above, lemon looks so good, you have to have it. Never mind the extra cleaning

As for the exact colour, think of lemon as being like the ivory leather you find on Aston Martins, Jaguars, etc. Very classy and much cooler in the summer than black.

P.S. I agree with Ryan: you need to specify the anthracite headliner, because the standard light grey roof doesn't really go with lemon I also think personally that the wood trim looks better than the aluminium (too pastel)...

Paul330d, that is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l !! The fact that Lemon (and anthracite headliner) isn't offered here in the US is proof that the Europeans don't like Americans.

This has been discussed on here before, but as far as I am aware, the US is the only country in the world where lemon is not offered I know Canada & Mexico get it, so why not the US?

Maybe they should have avoided the name 'lemon'? It certainly put me off and, while I was waiting for my car to be built, I drove 200km to a dealer in Brussels (Belgium) where I had been told they had an e90 with the lemon interior, just to be sure I wouldn't end up with some kind of canary yellow leather

I looked at the Australian site, but couldn't find the configurator. I would have thought that platinum would be the grey leather. Maybe Australia doesn't get the lemon?

MY lemon is now 2,5 Months old and 7000 kms.

IT is clear that the lemon needs some extra care. For example, any new blue or black jeans should stay out of the car....

in summer the lemon is a must, it is a big advantage on black leather which are some times a cooking plate....

For the moment i never proceed to a complete cleaning of the seat, i just (with special wipers) clean localy the leather (arm-rest...)

I want try this Week the BMW leather cleaner and conditioner (which i bougth yesterday).

The only problem that i see on long term is due to the relief of the dakota leather (which is not so thin like champagne leather from BMW individual).i think after some years, it will appears somes marks which are not removable due to the deep relief of the dakota leather.

i am daily taking care of my lemon (not cleaning, but i just try to seat properly in the car - not rubishing on the seat- and i am trying to avoid dark clothes if i am driving for a long trip)

Maybe I can tell you a bit of my experience:

I have been driving my e46 330dT for almost 6 years now. That time I ordered the leather color "light yellow" which was an Individual Color and very similar to the today's lemon (maybe a bit more yellow). Now, after 6 years of use and after 150.000 km, I have to tell you that it still looks very fresh and clean. I cleaned it up about every 3-4 months just with soap and water.

Based up on this very positive experience I now ordered leather lemon for my new 335dT which will be delivered September this year.

I do not have any doubts that the color lemon will be very difficult to maintain. It is leather and it can be cleaned very easily - why are so many of you afraid of cleaning?

I can attach a pic for you - not the best, but may show an impression of the seats.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't know if you have seen today's lemon interior in person, but it's quite a bit less yellow-brown than your photos.

P.S. congrats on the 335d order!!

Yes, I have seen lemon interior combined with black and it looks beautiful, I like it very much and I also saw the pics of your racer. I will get the same interior than yours - lemon & poplar, the best choice for the e90/91.

THanks for your congrats. I am really looking forward to drinving the 335d. Up to now I only know the 330d and the 535d - and I believe the 335d will even be better ...

But your racer is not bad at all, too! Pimp your 330d ... 285 hp and 610 Nm is the same level of the 335d. Are you happy with your car and the additional power?
