Z4M Coupe- Quick Exhaust Video

2007 Z4M Coupe
Active Autowerke Gen IV Headers
Stock Section 1
Supersprint X-Pipe
Supersprint Race Mufflers
ESS Tune

A couple of points-
1. Only revved to 5-6K and not all the way up to 8200rpm
2. It sounds at least 40% deeper than my camera could capture
3. During daily commute it is tolerable and not too loud.
4. With windows down and WOT, it sounds like the voice of god.
5. I acknowledge this will not be the solution for the faint of heart

Enjoy.

I'd like to hear your set-up with the RPI muffler delete....I bet that would be kickin'

Nice choice of color...

Why does your second license plate light come on at 0:35....???

Headlights came on b/c the sun was setting. My guess is the rear license plate light did the same...just guessing.

Also, RPI does sound good but I prefer the deeper tone of the supersprint exhaust. If anything, I might pick up a set of the supersprint powerloops to quiet it down a little...nah, probably not

Thanks! It is too cold right now to do any serious fly-byes b/c I would not get any traction in much of the first 3 gears. When it warms up and my PS2s can do their thing, I will be happy to get a video.

Regarding the headers- I would say 350-500 is reasonable but you might be able to do better if you shop around and supply your own new OEM gaskets/bolts. Also, if you buy from a shop, you might be able to negotiate on the install a little deeper.

Damn...I want headers too...sounds sick.....For now I'll likely get mufflers, then 4.10 diff, then coilovers, then headers....$$$

That's a bit much, 3 is a good price 4-5 is normal, 5-6 is overcharging. Unless they are ebay headers cuz they are a pain.

Especially since this car is easier then the e46.

Wow!! I'm in love.

Are those e46 m3 headers for AA or they design one for the ZM?

Sounds evil! Thanks for posting this.

Does anyone know how much the Supersprint X-Pipe affects sound/power in a setup like this? I'd like to get the AA headers eventually but I really want to change out the stock mufflers now. I was thinking of Supersprint Race since they are so much cheaper than Power Loop and with the rest of the exhaust staying stock I thought the sound might be just right. But I am worried that when I get the AA headers it will be too much drone for daily driving.

So I guess my question should really be: would AA headers + stock section 1 & x-pipe + SS race mufflers result in something just a little less agressive than the video posted above? Or should I go Power Loop now to play it safe?

Love the sound.

Did you get any CEL's at all? How did you mount the O2 sensors or did you have ESS mask them out.

Thanks. ESS did the DME fix so no O2 sensor lights. Also, my mileage with all my mods (RPI scoop, BMC Filter, exhaust, tune) and 4.10 gears is exactly the same as it was stock with the same average speed. The short period of time I drove my headers without a tune for the 02 sensor, my mileage plummeted nearly 5mpg. If you get headers, you have to get a tune...no question about it.

What tune did you get for the headers afterwards? Did you send youe DME back again after the header install, loosing 5mpg seems like alot for just adding headers or was it really running rich.

Yes- ESS was kind of enough to add header delete to my tune. Yes, if I understand it correctly, the car was trying to get cat efficiency up and it was running pig rich. It is definitely running better now with a tune. Even the idle was rough before the tune.

Thanks for the info Burt, I was thinking of adding headers but it seems like too much work, I already have the ESS software and at the time checked of that I will be running headers but if I have to send the DME back again after the header install, it's toublesome to get the thing back and forth across the border. But I really do love that sound.

If you checked that you are running headers then you wont need to send it back in. Burt had to send his in again because AJ did not flash his DME for headers by mistake the first time and should have.

out of curiosity, with the rpm limit raised to 8250, do the lights in the tach change location to reflect that bump?

Nope on the rpm lights. I rarely see those kind of rpms anyway. I treat the car like I plan to keep it except for the occasional blast down the hwy. Even then I usually shift closer to the stock redline. BTW, ESS was very accomodating and helpful...great company to do business with and highly recommended.
