Installed the BMW short shifter lever in my car today. Took less than an hour total, and was very easy. Best $70 I have ever spent. The car feels so much better. It definitely shortened the throws, but the feedback you get from each shift is the best part. It takes just slightly more effort to put it into gear, but it just snaps right into place, unlike the sloppy feel of the oem shifter. For $70 bucks, its an absolute must have for the 6mt.

I plan on doing the SSK when I do my exhaust.

What SSK did you get for $70? Sounds like you just got a shorter knob and not an actual "SSK." BMW's 335i SSK is $460 from Tischer, AA's is $350 and UUC's is $335.

that $70 is just for the shifter lever. to the op does the shifter sit to the right a little more?

No, I already had the shorter knob..bought that years ago. I bought the short shift lever. The bmw short shift kit is a new knob, lever, boot, etc. All you need is the short shift lever from that kit. The lever and the new bearing cup cost $70 from tischer. You can just use your existing knob/boot with the short shift lever and save $400..

No, the new lever sits exactly where it should. The pics you have seen of it sitting way to the right were installed backwards..very easy to put it in backwards if you dont pay attention.

Thought you couldn't order just the lever from the 335i SSK yet? Did you get the 328 SSK's lever? Part#?

Here are the part numbers. This is all that you need if you are not interested in the knob/alcantara boot:

25 11 0434219 - Shift Lever (aka short shift lever) (330 knob, not the 328)

OP got the short shift LEVER that says its for the 330. This is not to be confused with the 335 SHoRT SHIFT KIT(SSK). no parts are the same. the SSK($460 or whatever) includes a shift lever AND SHIFT ARM, and takes much longer to install. however, what op did is very cheap and from what i have heard, pretty damn effective. hope that clears things up

Interesting. I know I installed mine the correct way (the wrong way piches WAY back towards the armrest and doesn't stand straight up in Neutral), and mine does sit slightly more right than stock. Every picture of one crrectly installed also shows this. Not sure what the OP did to magically make it centered the same as stock. Not really noticable in N, but 3rd looks like about where 5th used to be.

Two things. First, I think your usage of the shorter knob makes any change from "stock" angles less noticable. Makes sense that we are "extending the line of projection" further than you, with our longer stock knob. Second, I still do think there is ever so slightly a shift to the right from where the stock was, in third. It's kind of physically mandatory. If you look at the stock lever, and at the 330 SS lever, they do not have the same bent angle. They will be different, even when mounted "correctly."

I was thinking of getting that knob myself. Is that one $60 or so like the others? Is it weighted more than the stocker?

right, the new lever does not have the small bend in it that the oem does..so im sure there is a slight change in where the shifter sits. I believe the knob I have was somewhere around $80..and it comes with a new boot. I did buy it a few years ago though. Unfortunately it is as light as the OEM shifter, but I wanted it to match the rest of my interior so that was the only choice..

ok, cool. Thanks for the info. Interesting that yours came with a new boot. I'm sure that any of the SS knobs, i.e. the M one, the 335 SSK one, or the one like you have COULD work with the stock boot, but it would be a bit "bunchy" in the leather.

I looked closely at mine again last night and in N it is darn near straight, but i third...it's not grossly to the right or anything, but it is certainly right of center. Would you agree that in third gear the knob/lever are much closer to the front edge (towards radio area) of the shift boot than they are close to the back edge (towards arm rest area) in fourth gear?

Edit: I'm looking at the DIY now and it seems to confirm what I'm feeling. Take a look at the OP's pictures of the thing in various gears. You can tell that a) in the third gear pic, the lever is slightly towards the passenger side, and b) it is much closer to the front of the boot area in third than is is to the back of the boot area in fourth.

Can someone please explain the difference between the SSK # 25110430357 and SSK # 25110430360. I understand one is for the 330i and the other is for E9x 335's but is there any actual diffrence?

The SSK # 25110430360 includes a new lever, new arm, shift knob, boot..The 330i part that I installed is JUST the short shift lever. IMO the entire kit is a waste of money. The knob/boot is ugly and doesn't really match the interior, and the install looks very difficult compared to the 30 minutes or so it takes to install the lever. I paid $70 for the lever, and the matching short shift knob/boot is about another $70. $140 total, and you really dont need the shorter knob, as the 330i lever alone greatly decreases the length of the throws..hope this helps

That's not what BMW says. I don't know how they differ but only the 25110430360 is made for the 335i.

It is fully compatible..if you search, you'll see there are many members of the forum that have used that part succesfully..Its a perfect fit.

Does it sit in the center when in neutral?
