Driving in DS?

Can a car be driven in sport mode for a long periods of time? my new E92 328i lacks a bit of power in regular D mode so I find myself driving more in DS or M mode to get more pep/power from the car. anyone else do this? will I damage the engine in the long haul

Seached and found nothing

Thanks

Ive been driving in ds mode, and even in the manual mode, for over 2 years now, nothing wrong yet. Not sure though in the later future, Hope that kinda helps.

Of course you can. You'll just be a bit penalized at the pump.

It is okay if you don't mind a bit less MPG. Just a program that orders up more "sport oriented" upshifts and downshifts.

i used to drive in DS mode all the time. now i switch from D to DS, its good. I use D when im cruising on the highway or when im just taking it easy. You get better MPG and its smoother...and when you kick into DS, VROOOOM! haha

The only thing you're losing in DS is gas mileage. Also, the car won't ever shift into 6th gear, so if you hop on the freeway, jump into D or M6 because it's pointless to be in 5th going 70mph with 3k rpm. Waste of gas.

Of course you can drive is DS all you want.
I like to drive my girlfriend's 328 in M because it gives you more control.
Shift at low RPMs for better MPG and High RPM for more get up and go.

Same here, I use M nearly all the time to get better gas mileage. And it's working so far, according to the mpg computer in the car i'm getting 22.4mpg compared to 20.2 last tank.

And...when I'm feeling bored, I can let the tach run up to 5k and then shift. Whatever I want

I wouldn't suggest driving in DS when the car is cold. Warm up the transmission, you will feel jerks when it's cold, especially when the transmission attempts to blip the throttle. Warm it up, then put it on DS.
