Do you have a car that you consider to be unique?
This is the configuration of my 2009 328i sedan:
Titanium silver—black interior, dark walnut trim Premium Package Steptronic transmission Sirius radio Logic 7 sound system Park Distance Control Fold down rear seats HD radio I do not have any other packages or options with the exception of rubber floor mats and a cargo liner. I think that most of the items listed are reasonably common but I don’t believe that very many BMW’s have all of them—at the exclusion of any other packages and options. Because of that, I think my car may be fairly unique. After showing the dealer the list of items I would like, I was told that a car having both Sirius and HD radio is unusual and that alone would make finding one with just the items I wanted--and no others--difficult. They were right. I live in L.A. and they couldn’t locate a single car with only the features I requested west of the Mississippi. They said that to get a BMW with exactly what I wanted, I would have to order it directly from the factory. And that’s what I did. Do you have a car (not necessarily a BMW 3 series) whose exterior color, interior upholstery and trim, packages, and options combined make it what you believe to be a unique automobile? I’m not referring to the addition of aftermarket items or to pre-owned cars whose previous owner customized them. I'm talking only about the configuration of your new car at the time you first drove it off the dealer's lot. Did you have to order the car directly from the factory because what you wanted wasn’t available at a dealership? Finally, how many of you have a car with virtually every package and option available? Because of the expense, I would think that automobiles equipped that way are quite rare. I’m curious to know approximately what percentage of new BMW's are fully or almost fully loaded. |

No. Yes. No. as well here.
Not knocking you, but your car is hardly unique at all. However, it's special to you and I get that. My car is special to me as well.

I don't think all options are uncommon, but rather more common than not. Many dealers by decked out so they can sell them later. Don't think there are any like mine. Of 2000+ 3 series on US lots when I ordered it, only 4 were verts with manual trans. How many of those were 335, and my color combo, and didn't have I drive? I'd guess none.

The color wasn't the problem. It was getting all the options I wanted without having to pay for others that I didn't have much use for. They actually found a car with pretty much everything on my list but it included Navigation, Sport Package, and Cold Weather package. I didn't want Navigation or the Sport Package. I live in Southern California so I had no use for the Cold Weather Package. I wasn't about to pay close to $5,000.00 more for a car with things I didn't care for. That's why I ordered the car from the factory and got exactly what I wanted.

This is one of my favorite things about BMW. Compared to most other car makes, you have so many different color/feature options when ordering a car. Sure we probably pay a little more for this, but if uniqueness is important to you (it is to me) then it is probably worth it!

Funny thread.
A lot of 3er have almost or fully loaded cars. It's not like E90/92 have gazillian dollar options, only major ones are zsp/zpp/zcw, and a lot of people have them all. |

Give us an address and it shouldn't be hard to find.

"how many people have unique cars that are NEW from the dealer?"
"Oh, but you can't count anything you did to the car." "And did you have to order it, or found it on the lot?" People on this forum tend to order their cars due to particular features they are looking to get in their new car. If you found it on the lot, probably by default--not unique b/c most dealers "order" their allocations to what they believe is selling in their area. Most people here stamp their own flavor with modifications, OEM or aftermarket that makes their car what they consider unique. Most people will look at your version of UNIQUE and say....its just STOCK. But I am glad you like your car...that is what matters. I think what would be unique on this forum....to be here for 3 years and keep your car stock. Meaning not changing a single thing--no wheels, no tint, no brighter bulbs, no add ons--and still browse the threads for years. Now that....is rare on this forum.
