3 series bike rack

My wife is determined to get a new bike for herself and a bike rack for her car. I'm afraid to go for an aftermarket unit, since I'm concerned about scratching the car up. I really don't want a roof mounted unit, but prefer a rear mounted one. Anyone know if BMW makes one, or if there is a good unit that won't damage the car?
If such a thing doesn't exist, how difficult are the roof-mounted systems to use??

Thanks!

Phil

As long as you don't put a bike rack on it.

Taking it for a drive tomorrow, and out of winter storage in 2 weeks. It's getting nice out there!!

I just purchased the Thule Rack myself, very nice product, fitment is spot on and the way the rubber sits around the mounting point looks great too, I dont anticipate this damaging the roof in anyway (My old Rack for my TSX left some fine scrapes in some spots, but that was a rack that just clamped on, not screwed in)

Does the Thule rack mount to the same attachment points as the BMW one?

Also consider the option of placing the bike on top of the roof rack; BMW makes the option available and you can check that out in their accessory catalog.

My wife is um, tiny. She's 5' 1" - no way she's getting a bike on top of the roof. I'm going to go for the trunk mounted rack, likely the Saris.

The bike rack transports on the roof but swings down to the side of the car when you need to take it down.

Did you bought from a Thule supplier? I've read some where that the BMW branded one is also made by Thule.

I'm debating on whether buying one of these, or the one from the 2nd link Tim provided. I'm not sure if the trunk mounted one will work for me, since I have the Vorsteiner trunk

Is the roof one easy to installed and take out? I don't wanna leave the rack permanently installed...that's why I was leaning toward the trunk one.

I already had the Thule Bars, Ski and Bike Mounts from my TSX, so I went to the local bike shop, and picked up the two kits I needed for the e90... took me a few minutes to figure out how the mounts go together (would of been easier if I picked up the instructions, but come'on who does that) but actually attaching the mounts is easy, just line em up and screw in one Allen Bolt, and thats it... go on and off effortlessly.
