Problems with the 328i Coupe???

Hey,
Has anyone had as many problems with the 328i coupe-s as some with the 335i? What issues have you had with your 328i Coupe? Any HPFP gone bad? I am asking because my brother is thinking of buying 328i coupe (Manual). I would greatly appreciate your comments on the car.

Oh, by the way I was looking at some statistical data for the state of Maryland on BMW repairs (under warranty) in 2 year period or 30,000 miles from the initial purchase date and compared to the other brands such as Infiniti, and Lexus we are doing veeeery poorly. BMW is like at the bottom of the list along with Mercedes and some of the U.S. junk. Pretty sad!!

328's don't have HPFP's.

Yep, the only issue people commonly seem to have is that it is slower than a snail. Otherwise, a car reliable enough to be driven about 200miles at a stretch without any problems.

Ha-ha, Really? I need to go drive one. It is just about 1 sec difference in 0-60 with the 335.
Any serious issues with yours?

Indeed. The true 0-60 time of the 328i is 18.0 seconds where as a snails' 0-60 is actually 9.3 seconds...a little known fact.

Of course, what Blue doesnt mention is that at every 200miles you have to replace the HPFFTPS...which gets expensive at $1000.00 a pop.

That's like saying a 335 has a 6 cyl 3.0 just like in the 328.

Well, to be honest, the 328i felt like a neutered 330i the only time i actually drove one. I place a lot of importance on the way it feels and it was just ...stifled.

They are known for being reliable except for the engine-ticking-head-replacement malarkey. Good car if you don't place much importance on having one of the faster 3's.

Yeah, I remember someone was going crazy about that ticking from the engine in an old post. It was something about valve lifters, ..... I might be wrong though

OP- seriously though...all joking aside, its a BMW straight 6. Nothing fancy, it is reliable. Oh and refering back to your original post, Infinity and Lexus are japanese..It's just not worth comparing a German car to a Japanese car on the reliability front.

Too late, I think we (and by we, I mean you) scared him off. He's probably at the Toyota dealership right now signing for a Solara.

No fellas,

I grew up in Eastern Europe, I love BMWs, I have had 3 already. What makes me mad are the reliability issues. I don't think that paying $30-50k for a car and then calling the dealership two weeks later for a fuel pump replacement is right. Come on! Did I buy a BMW or a Russian Lada???
