Dyno Results PRE and POST Dinan Stage II

Here it is, both dyno runs plotted on the same graph (the 2nd runs from each day)

Blue is Pre-Dinan Stage II
Red is Post-Dinan Stage II

Gain of 41whp
Gain of 58 wtq

They're no JB3 or Vishnu #'s, but I like the Torque # ....poetic justice, isn't it?

Enjoy people!

Considering that it's warrantied, I think it's a good boost.

Also, on the stock numbers, it doesn't seem like the 335i engine is underrated by BMW at all.

262whp stock would mean about 13% drive train loss which seems normal.

I'm not sure what to think about the stock numbers....diff ppl tell me diff things...the dyno-dudes today told me with a Rear wheel drive vehicle, on average one should expect an 18% DT loss, due to a longer drivetrain when compared to a frontwheel drive car.....so it's anyone's guess.....this whole BMW underrated thing is rumour though....who could possibly confirm that anyway? Regardless, I'm happy enough with my gains, cause like you said, I have the piece of mind of my warranty....I've already had warranty work done (minor stuff), but it's great that I can talk about my tune with the SA's and techs, and feel good about it, as opposed to having to hide them and live in fear......anyways, that's not what this thread is about, it's just about sharing some actual numbers with the community....

but thanks!

Wow, Edmunds Insideline dyno'd their 335i test car and it made 299-point-something to the wheels.

Yeah, but they said that that car was a ringer. They compared those results to a random dude's car and got wildly different results.

What does the Dinan cost about $2000? JB+ & BT = $600. For me I think keeping the cash and 98% confidence of keeping the warranty seems like a better deal.

Dinan

I agree with the OP, the difference in tune price is about $1400 bucks. The car was $50k, why risk it over that amount of money.

well, good for you, you deserve a medal. This thread is here to share the gain on the Dinan tune, not a comparo thread.

What's your impression of the tune? I was at my dealer last night picking up some touch up paint and they were all over me advertising the stage 2 tune trying to sell it to me. Of course they use the rated numbers in the brochure telling me that car will be near 400whp...lol

I used to Mod Cummins power Dodge trucks in the past and I worry about the 335 having the same weaklink as those trucks....that being the auto tranny. I find it hard to believe that the tranny will take all of this modded power with no extra clutch packs or pressure increase.

Will you send it to me, does it have a ribbon?

Just throwing in my thoughts and last time I checked a forum was about discussing the OPs topic which I believe I did.

So the AFR is below 11 now?

Im not so sure the dinan tune is really that advisable.

AFR <11 isn't bad on a turbo car. there are plenty of OEM turbo cars that have AFRs around 10 or below at WOT. Sure, it won't make as much power as having it around 12.5 or 13, but it will run cooler, and have a higher margin of safety.

The dinan tune is probably more conservative, because they maintain the warranty.

Re: ^ - That would be the case for a non DFI car. AF ratios for DI can and are normally much leaner even for piggyback units.
There is much higher wash down of cylinderwalls at ratios below 12.5.

Better control of other aspects of the engine will eliminate the need for such rich mixtures.

Dinan always measures HP to the crank and not rear wheels. If you do not have enough air being pushed over the front of the car you will get weaker numbers because the Mass Air Flow Meters are not reading enough air being pushed into the motor and the sensor will retard the timing to protect itself, you will never know that its not at full power. When Dinan is doing tuning using a wheel Dyno they use a turbine that pushes 150mph winds into the front of the car. Normal fans will not work properly in dynoing A new BMW.

Same question. How is the 'seat-of-the-pants' factor? Is it a big difference? I too was at the dealer last night and they were pushing the stage 2 on me as well.

Is this including Intercooler? Slap a JB+ on top of the Dinan!
