Question Film on rear view mirrors

My 1 day old car has a blue film on the rear view mirrors that doesn't extend all the way to the edge. Was this for transportation and can I remove it? Or is it a feature?

I don't have it on mine so I'm going to guess they forgot to remove it while doing the PDI. To be sure just give your dealer a shout and ask.

You can remove it. The dealer should have removed it when prepping your car. Congrats on your new ride!

Is it Blue, or is it almost like a tint film? All of my mirrors have a film on them, but it is part of the whole dimming function.

Could be the tint function. On my 2006 300xi, the dimming area extended to the edges of the mirror. On the 2009s, for some reason, there's a quarter inch border where the dimming surface doesn't extend. Looks like the dimming surface was stuck on like a sticker. It disappears in the daytime.

I should say side-view mirrors. I believe the rearview mirror is completely covered. have someone shine a flashlight on the sideview mirrors, you should see the part that dims.

I am used to my two E60s I had and it had no lines or "tinted" areas on the mirrors - so, no, its not my first car. Their mirrors were just uniform without any "tint" to it.
The area tint seems to change with illumination. It looked blue'ish in the sunshine today with a regular ~ 3 mm boundary, but I couldn't see it in the evening twilight.

Congrats. You could give that film to me! I did not get the premium package, hence my side rear view mirrors are much too bright a night. (reflection of car lights behind me.) I have been wondering how to solve this problem without tints. Any thoughts?
