Low oil level after changing oil!

Hey Guys,
Today I changed the oil and oil filter in my e92 by myself. Everything went smooth, drove the car around for a little while. Few hours later, I went to the grocery store and came home, when I shut off the car, I got a low oil level warning, I checked the level and its at minimum level, and says to add 1 quart. I threw in 6 quarts of oil.... the car seems to drive fine, there is no leakage anywhere. Does the electronic dipstick take a while to adapt? its been several hours now. I'm pretty worried right now, any thoughts???

You only used 6 quarts for the oil change?

It requires 7

It is a very common issue. For one, when you change the oil your oil filter is dry, once the oil circulates through the system the filter absorb a pretty large amount of oil into and reduces the level. I also heard that oil looses a tad bit of its volume after a full heat cycle.

Just top it off and be proud of your work!

I ran over to autozone and bought a oil filter wrench, its about 5 bucks. Pretty easy to do, theres a DIY oil change posted, follow it and you'll be fine.
