Wiper Fluid always low

I seem to have to refill this every three weeks ro so. And always get the annoying ! prompt. I only use the wiper fluid twice a week. And dont suspect any leaks in the resevoir. How often do you guys refill?

if you have headlight washers, they use/waste a lot of washer fluid

I have to refill mine every 20-30 days during winter season. Especially this year here in Boston, can't believe how much salt they dumped on the roads.

if you had leaks, you'd notice puddles of coolant everywhere you park....i don't see how you have to fill up every three weeks if you hardly use it....are you sure you are filling it full each time or just putting in a little here n there....i used mine quite a bit over the past winter and have only had to fill it up once that i can remember over the past two months...

yeah, that's one advantage of not having xenon headlights

...unfortunately the disadvantages are much more significant

Yeah I'm amazed at how much fluid the headlight washers use. But, it makes sense, as they operate on pressure alone; no aid from a wiper.

You need the cold weather pkg in order to have headlamp washers. My e92 w/ xenons don't have headlamp washers.

Dealer replaced my headlight nozzles last week as I was losing fluid. There were no puddles, but he told me they are notorious for leaks. Also, you can avoid activating the headlight washers by turning the headlights OFF when you want to spray the windshield. With low-light outside during the day, the headlights sometimes are on automatically and my headlight spray is activated when it's unnecessary. Yes, it's an extra step, but it saves fluid and washer fluid on your hood.

You can just pull lighter on the windshield washer stalk and it will spray the windshield without using the headlight washers. No need to turn the lights off.

i used to have the exact same problem. the stupid wiper fluid alarm went off and i use my washers not even once a month. and when i used to go fill the reservoir it used soo much liquid and i know i had no leaks. The problem was that the seal at the top of the reservoir wasnt entirely shut even thought it seemed to be. i just pushed down on it until it clicked and i havent had any problems since. my guess is that it was just evaporating, becuase the prompt always went off on hot days.

hope this helps, its the simplest solution.

I use the regular blue windshield washer fluid sold by all automotive stores, and add to it the BMW Windshield Washer Antifreeze (83 12 0 411 336), which comes in plastic bottles labeled 'Original BMW Products.' I do not think the fluid is anything special (65 % of it is ethanol) and do not use it because of its origin, but I like how it smells. BMW also sells a washer fluid booster, which I had tried and found it worked just as well, but found it gave me lesser olfactory pleasure.
