Light switch

On my 2008 335i, when I turn the headlights and/or parking lights on, the background lights on the switch turn off. When the lights are off, the background lights are on. Is this just a the way it is designed, or is my switch broken? It's hard to find the foglight switch in a dark cabin with no background lights on the switch.

Thanks for your help.

Will find out later. How is it hard to switch on the foglights when the switch is so close to the knob?

Yeah that is a little odd, put the the switch in auto "A" mode and you will be fine.

The dash / switch illumination should come one with 1 click to the right if they are not set in auto mode.

Leave it on auto and forget turning on the lights forever unless of course the bulbs get busted or whatever. Or maybe it's in one of the background light settings set in your
car.

I don't keep mine set to Auto either. Don't want the headlights being cycled on and off every time I start the car in my dark garage and pull out into the daylight. Doesn't seem like it'll do anything good for their life span.

As for the switch, I think yours is faulty if switching from the Off to Parking Light position causes the markings on the headlight switch module to go completely dark. I can see mine dim slightly as the rest of the dash lights comes on when I switch it to the Parking Light position, but the switch's lights do not go out for me.

Oh, this is too tempting so here I go.......

You mean to tell us you need a light on the fog light button to find it?

How about spending a few minutes familiarizing yourself with your vehicle so you know where all your controls are so you don't have to fumble around while driving and keep your attention focused on the road ahead of you....

Do you need the footwell lighting on also so you know where the brake and gas pedals are? Hopefully you don't drive 6MT or you'll have to figure out which one is the clutch pedal.

Sorry for the rant.... the magnitude of inane threads must be taking it's toll on me.

Like many of life's best (and worst) things, it's right under your ass.
