whoa, summer tires

decided to switch back to my m6 reps on summer tires from my stock 17 rfts... took a little spin to fill with air and test them out... jesus what a difference. This car should not be sold with 17s or runflats or either...

glad winter's over

glad you switched. out of curiosity, do you slip a lot with summer tires on driving in the winter? or is it simply preference to preserve your m6 reps during the harsh winter?

i am from upstate ny, so I don't dare drive summer only rubber below 40 degrees or in the snow. So as soon as it gets cold I put the original 17 rfts on (until they need to be replaced with maybe winters or at least better tires then the bubbling oems). The turanza's actually did really well this winter though, i mean xi by all means was definitely helping, but my car felt stable through all conditions except when there was like 3+ inches of fresh snow/slush on the road, then it couldn't handle it (thats when real snows would be nice) The M6 reps are 19'', running 235/35r19 front 275/30r19 rear on goodyear gs-d3, and the whole car feels like it runs better with them on...

That's interesting, I was thrown for a loop because I am waiting to put my stockers back on (RE050A rft), and haven't done so yet. Rather than have winter tires (where you take OEM off and replace them), the OP has the opposite, summer tires (where the OEM's come off). It's like a parallel universe only on the other side of the equator....

From my experience, summer tires suck in almost every condition other than hot climate. They don't inspire any confidence even in rain and the traction control kicks in from every start.

Nice.

I did the same too, just yesterday and I agree with everything you said.. except that I think the 17s are great for snowtire setup.. and yes, the BMW shouldn't have used RFT for all cars and should have made them "optional".

Nice ride dude, but isn't it a little early for summer tires in upstate NY? Coming from Cleveland recently, I wouldn't have felt safe until end of april to do so. Now I'm in NC, I can't WAIT to get my summer assemblies back on!

And blue2fire, I've always had great traction in the rain with my pilotsport PS2's. What are you running?

Gotcha.. Your observations about poor wet performance resonate with the reviews I've read on 6speed and others about the contisport contact...

Yep, looks like the PS2's are the benchmark. Cant wait for these to wear out.
