Who has had their belonging stolen at the dealership during service?

obviously i've experienced this when owned a different car brand. my car is at the dealership for service and i just remembered that some belongings were left inside the car.

out of curiosity, how many of our fellow bmw members have had their stuff taken from their car during their scheduled/unscheduled maintanence? if yes, what was taken?

Had a jacket stolen out of my trunk from an independant shop. It's okay though - was only a 400 dollar snowboarding jacket

Never happened. I give it to them empty. Never trust, once it's too late...

Not only that but I also make sure they see me write down the exact mileage and I tell them no one is to drive the car our of the repair center.

What did you leave in your car?

My co-worker took his 08 into the dealership to fix an iPod adapter issue. He purposely left the iPod in the car for them to test. When they were done, they accidentally scratched his bumper and had to send the car off to a body shop for repairs. The car came back from the body shop sans iPod. The dealership reimbursed my co-worker for his stolen iPod.

I took my car into a different dealership for some warranty work and accidentally left my iPod and a pair of pretty expensive sunglasses in the car. Nothing was missing when I got the car back the next day.

So it's a tie between my co-worker and me.

I think there was a bit of sarcasm in stimpy's post.

I had my credit card stolen when i gave my car to a dealer to get it serviced, all they did with it was visit Petrol stations filling up with about $350 worth of gas.I Dont expect such things from BMW though.

Dude, that's a lot of temptation. Your car passes through a lot of hands at the dealership. You might want to go back for your items.

I usually never leave anything in the car worth stealing anway...(I guess loose change and that's it).

The most expensive thing I probably leave in my car is my Oakley's. ...they're prescription.

They earn their nickname-stealerships. Luckily I have a close relationship with the staff at mine. Yet, I can't believe what I was charged for programing a key!

Robbery!

I will be careful still what I leave in my car during service.

I drop my car off at the dealership with no personal stuff in it. Kinda like when the car was brand new sitting in the showroom. There is nothing to steal.

Just don't leave anything valuable in there. It might be too tempting for someone.

Six years ago, I took my previous car (old Benz) to an MB dealer/stealer and foolishly left my change box in the car. Normally, I would have taken it out, but I had forgotten and figured it should be safe.

So when I come back to pickup the car, I open the box, and someone there took out my five singles (spare money) and actually took the time to fish out every quarter and dime!!

I called the SA, and he said these things happen and implied it was my fault for actually leaving the change box in the car! I wrote a letter to the dealer's GM saying how disappointed I was with my car's treatment and would never bring the car to them again. Shortly thereafter, I received a apology and a check for $15 to cover the money stolen.

Nice that they actually did something about it, but too bad it happened at all to begin with.

Never. My BMW dealership has been nothing but good to me since day one... and I've been negligent to leave valuables in the car during services...

BUT! having worked at a dealership (not BMW), I know that some (not all!) mechanics are extremely dishonest and will take whatever they think they can get away with... don't be surprised if SOME (not all, though) of your change is missing, etc.
