low cost Comfort Access remote key fob?

lost one of my keys and called up 3 different stealerships and got quoted from $330 - $370!

is there an online BMW parts store that sells this stuff?

and is it possible to use a non-Comfort Access key to lock/unlock the car manually? I realize that you'd have to put the key into the ignition, but i'd be ok w/ that as a spare key.

any help would be appreciated.

Keys are cut and coded by the factory. Have to be ordered from the dealer to match the VIN. You also must prove to the parts department that you are the rightful owner of the vehicle.

Will another CA key from a different vehicle (say like mine) work for you. I have 3 and really only need 2. PM me if interested.

What about the emergency key that slides out of the fob?, you might just need to use it and you cannot if the fob you buy is used. Sorry, you have no choice but to pay the money, cheap and BMW don't mix very well.

apparently, they can't recode keys if it's already been used by another car. looks like i have to buy one at full price.

That sounds a tad high. There's a warehouse in Sentatobia, Mississippi, where 8-10 sets of your keys hang. You bring your registration & license to the dealer & parts will get a new fob sent overnight.

I replaced a key this year for:

$120.00-CA key fob
$30.00-valet key insert
$57.50-initialize CA (only 2 CA at a time are recognized, so they need your car).

I argued that the tech time was training since they were clueless how to get the CA to work (the fob worked fine as a remote & in the key slot).

Good luck.

Nah it's not $120. It should be around $200 like his total.

Yeah, I paid ~$200 total, since the fob is incomplete w/o the insert valet key & to get CA to work you need at least 0.5 hrs of tech help to disable #2 and initialize #3 (for example). YMMV depending how keen your dealer is with CA functions. Mine had to read a book...

I bet you have to go through the dealer to cough up a key from Senatobia, though.

Good luck.

My dealer made the order. I got a new key.

BMW of North America Inc. operates on a 20-acre site, $12-million, 200-square-foot warehouse and distribution center for BMW in Senatobia Mississippi, which already employs 47. The plant will initially stock more than 50,000 component parts valued at approximately $35 million.

Good luck.

Hey guys..
I recently just got my 2006 e90 330i with CA. It originally came with ONE CA key. I did order a 2ND CA key from Bill Jacobs in Naperville, Illinois just in case.
A week later after getting my 2nd CA key, the dealership (where I originally got the car from which is Perillo) called me and said that they have the manual book for my car, the warranty book and another CA key.

So now I have THREE CA keys.

I tried programming the 3RD CA key (by inserting the CA key to the ignition slot and pushed and held it in for 10 secs, which was the same thing I did with the 2ND CA key I got) but the 3rd key doesn't work.
I definitely would need to have it programmed by BMW to work with my car.
However, I don't really need the 3rd key and was wondering if that CA key can still be programmed with a different car since it won't work at all with my car so, I can also try to sell it.

I will try to call the dealership tomorrow but I was just wondering if anybody in here knows the answer.

Thanks in advance....

Good luck with the third key. I was told by the dealer the CA only will work with only 2 keys at one time. The third key should work as a normal remote & key but not for comfort access. You could keep it in the safe for a spare. I'd be surprised if it would work for any other car but yours.

A - You are highly misinformed, because this is not true!!!

B- Key fobs when you recieve them from the dealer will function as a remote and a key but comfort access will not work until being hooked to a diagnostic maching, ie GT1, at which point your old comfort access key is deactivated and the new key is activated.

Please get your facts straight before spreading false information. TY
