all that will happen is it will wear the brakes. do it often enough you will have no brakes. pull up on it and nothing will happen. idk how you didn't see the brake icon lit up on the dash not to mention you having to really hit the gas to compensate for the brake being on. but you should be fine as long as you stop

well, all occurances were in a parking lot, and every time i was rushing so i must have sorta pressed the gas gas...also i didnt realize the icon because my brain automatically corrected it for being the seatbelt alarm, since i had not put it on...
not saying i dont wear a seat belt, just i was rushing.

Checklist for the absent minded (print out and place inside windscreen) Open door Place bum on seat switch on brain Insert key in ignition Foot on brake Start engine Selector in D Handbrake off Check mirrors Indicate Foot off brake and onto gas Drive away Just kidding! The handbrake is designed to be applied on a moving car as an emergency brake in case something happens to your normal brakes Its also occassionally used by drivers wishing to make a U turn without the normal formalities |

The manual suggests occasionally applying the parking brake while slowing for a stop to prevent corrosion build up & one-sided braking action. Albeit applied lightly.
You have your own technique, no worries. GL

Wow you seem to do that a lot. Are you sure there's nothing wrong with you? I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just asking if maybe there's a part of your brain missing that essential in cognitive function and logic?

The parking brake and the actual four wheel disc's have nothing to do with each other. You won't wear out your brakes. The parking brake is a single device independent of the others, worst case it does not work that well in the future and can be adjusted of sorts. Quick question though, why set the brake at all unless you're on a hill? No worries you did not ruin anything except your ego.

-1 To the second part -- best practice is to always set your parking brake when parked. Those of us who drive MT are in the habit and do it even for AT cars.

The parking brake is actually mini drum brakes in the rear rotors. It also doubles as an emergency brake so it is quite capable of handling 15 feet of travel at parking lot speeds.

dont worry the car is not that fragile... you'd just wear out the brakes a little more but nothing that will harm the car long term.

Been driving, licensed, for 36 years. This is the first auto I've ever owned and don't set the brake unless I'm on a hill. Yep every other car I set it cuz it was always left in neutral. On a level surface I simply do not see why you would need to set the brake so I challenge the best practice statement, maybe just in your opinion? |
