Winter kit -> track wheels
I'm considering to use my winter rims, the kit sold by bmw as winter kit, and change the tyres to use this set as track wheels.
The rims are 8x18. Based on this size, the recommended tyres would be 235/40/18. do you think it would be a good idea to use these rims for the track ? I have also OEM 19', but don't want to swap the tyres again and again. Thanks in adavance for your input |

No, that would not be a good idea at all. Those rims are way too narrow for traction on a track. If you will track often, get a set of dedicated track wheels and tires.

Yeah, sorry to say, but you should have bought some wheels equivalent to the stock 18" rims. I found some take offs here on the forum for an excellent price. They come up all the time. Maybe you can dump your "snow" rims and replace them with some 9.5" wide.
Your snow tires will still work on the wider rims. For track and autocross, you want wide, up to 10", to stabilize the sidewalls. Dave

Not the best idea unless your aim is to be the slowest M3 on track.
Like others have said, 18x8 is simply too narrow to fit anything more than a 235-245 size tire on. It should be fine up front but if you go the same size in the rear, you're not only handicapping your M3 but also introducing some oversteer tendencies in an unfavorable way (the good way to go square would be to go wider front instead of narrower rear so that even though you've dialed in some oversteer via tire setup, you're already at a higher level of grip than stock.) But then if you're a novice on a budget and just want to try an event or two this season, then I suppose using this narrow winter set will work.
