Short Shifter Kit

I know about UUC, but does Autosolutions make a SSK for the z4 m? Can anybody offer some insight into SSKs for the z4m? Roman seems pretty keen on the UUC, although I have seen autosolutions get much better reviews than the UUC, at least for the E46 m3 and m5. Thoughts?

i don't think autosolution makes one but beside the uuc theres the Rogue Short shifter however its not a ful SSK its just a shorter stick which is the one i have on my car right now. I have to say the rogue short shifter stick isn't making a huge difference. It makes a less notchy shift (slightly) and is about 20 to 30 percent shorter than stock. However i was looking for a more direct and stiffened feeling so i am thinking about going for uuc to see what its like.

If you want a little improvement cheap, you can always get a ZHP shift knob. This shift nob sits a little lower on the stock assembly and gives you a little shorter shift. I imagine this would be perfect for my needs and am considering it right now. I am really thinking about Starscreams modified white LED ZHP shifter on this forum for $155.00. Another plus is that this is an easy DIY project vs. the short shifter kits.

I have the red LED lighted ZHP, looks and feels great. However, there is kind of a plasticky feel when putting it into gear which is why I want an aftermarket ssk. BTW, there was some feedback on the lighted zhp thread that the white was better than the red, I bought the red used from somebody else expecting it to be white and I was disappointed when I found out it was red. However, after I hooked it up I was quite surprised at how bright the red is and am very happy with it.

I've run the UUC SSK on my 330Ci for about as long as anyone out there -- they used my car as the testbed for the 6-speed model when they were still located in NJ -- and I can say that it was hands down the most enjoyed modification I did right behind swapping my differential for a higher (lower) ratio. I don't know what bad reviews you're referring to but everyone I've ever spoken to about the UUC SSK raves about it. It makes for extremely deliberate shifts that are not at all sloppy and with its adjustable height you can make shifts markedly easier by simply raising it up. I've always used it on the lowest setting, though, and never found the effort required to put it in to gear a problem.

Question my shifter set up

Just intalled my new shift boot from leatherz, a black alcantara version with tricolor M stitching to go with my red LED-lighted ZHP shifter. My wife prefers the original black leather, though I am still undecided. I really like the tricolor stitching but not entirely sure if the alcantara looks right with the black nappa seats. Any thoughts?

I hate to admit it, but you guys (and my wife) are right. As much as I like the alcantara material, it just doesn't look right with the black nappa. How about the tricolor M stitching? Think it would look right on a black leather boot or would it be too much (tacky)? My thought was that it goes nicely with the steering wheel stitching which is one of my favorited details of the interior.

Off topic -- Did anyone here have the DICE HD radio or the sirius component installed? Is it worth it?

looks like your ZHP insert is coming off. mine did the same, had to clean it off and reseal it... it's stayed in place since.

Got the knob second handed and the seller neglected to mention the obvious scratch in the leather and crappy glue job on the knob -- oh well.

I would not do stitching on the boot even if it is leather...it is too much IMHO.
