Thinking of going to the Ring. First time. Tips on arranging the trip?

I've got an offer from guys in UK for 500 euros which is quite nice I think since it includes few hot laps as passenger in nicely powered car, 680 euros for race car hire with instructor (BMW 120i with rollcage and you can race that without scaring that brakes will fade and tyres will melt after 2 laps, no need to cool it off after 2-3 laps and so on). It's also insured I think so you are good to go without fearing of 100000 euro bill for crashing (god forbid) and closing the course and paying the huge amounts that many people dont even suspect of. Plus I pay myself for destination to Cologne where I get pick up. Hotel is included in the fee, so only thing thats left is gas (say 200 euros) and the laps fee (say 200 euros for 10 laps worth of fun).

Total is aroudn 1500 euros on site, plus may be 300 euros for ticket to Cologne. I also reckong few hundred I'll spend while there on memorabilia, BMW museum, GP museum, and some meals plus 100 euros for CD with pictures of my car. :/ so 2000 euros is the budget based on the plan.

DO you guys reckon I can do this cheaper without losing good advice and guidance from local guys who know the track well and can show me around, point to right places to rent race cars, drive me to airport, etc (the tour does include it as well as bunch of other car fans so it shoudl be fun)... 2000 euros is quite an amount to spend in 3 days drivin garound.

I'm thinking also about just driving to the Ring myself (2000km drive one way, so fuel is 300 euros or so) with friend, splitting car rental and track pass fees, thus keeping costs down a bit but drivin through Poland doesn't excite me one bit!

Anyone went? Looking for suggestions, tips, etc. )

Planning trip in the end of May btw.

PS. Don't wanna do this with my own car on track though - first its longer laps since i need to leave it for cool offs for 20-30min, it's not covered by insurance if you crash (bad) and if wasiting a set of my Michelin PS2s at 700 euros is same as renting the race car which is much better for the Ring experience anyway.
