What's your RPI scoop setup?

Like the title says, what's the setup you're running on your M?

About to place an order and wondering if the BMC filter is worth the additional $80, and is an improvement over the stock filter.
I know the BMC one has to be cleaned/re-oiled every 10k miles or so. How many times can you do this with the $19 kit from BMC?

Thumbs up Save another $140

RPI intake scoop and OE paper filter.
Why not save another $140 and simply remove the OE intake deflector.

RPI scoop and AFE intake currently. Maybe soon it will be the RPI scoop, AFE intake, and the streamline elbow.

??

What is the gruppe M? How is it any different from the aFe intake? I read somewhere that, other than the scoop, the cold air intakes are essentially worthless in terms of hp gains. Also, what is this elbow thing? Can anyone comment on the this as well as the sound of the cold air intake on our cars?

Here's the GruppeM intake. Thing is absolutely beautiful - but kinda pricey IMO.

This post shows the streamline elbow vs. the OEM one.
Still waiting for someone else to test this out.

So I guess the important question that I should have originally included is:

Does the filter actually make a difference?
If there is a noticeable benefit to replacing the stock filter I'm more inclined to do it.

What kind of "difference" are you looking for?
Your wallet will weight less so the car may feel marginally faster

I put a K&N filter and removed the upper charcoal filter from my OEM airbox... I read up an article online from Euro Tuner ( I think ) where they did that / did dyno tests, and it was good for 5hp... hahahaha Just the K&N only was 2.5 hp they said.

I didn't really notice a difference... not that U would with 5HP. So I put the charcoal one back.

The whole thinking behind the silicone elbow is that it's SUPPOSED to steam line the airflow around the corner ( inside of it is smooth ), as the OEM elbow has ribs in it that disturb the airflow around the corner.

Sounds like a good way to get $90 out of your pocket to me. In theory it makes sense, sounds like a good idea, but seriously, what difference do you REALLY think it's gonna make ?

I have the RPI and have played with a few configurations. Here are a couple random thoughts:

1. Not sure if the RPI scoop minus software actually makes a difference but it might at the top end and at hwy speed.

2. I tried RPI with stock filter and charcoal filter...no difference over stock I could tell. I bought my scoop used so I had to order my BMC from Europe and did the stock filter+charcoal filter combo with my scoop for a few weeks.

3. I put in my BMC and removed my charcoal filter/stock paper filter. Not sure if it is faster but the revs seem to rise and fall much quicker. It seems like the car revs faster...not sure if this is added power but I have switched back to stock paper filter/charcoal filter and it seemed to rev less freely. I make no claims other than this is what I percieved.

4. I am getting ESS software and do believe my intake/exhaust modifications plus software will get the best result with noticeable gains. I get my software tomorrow and am happy to share my results

5. In summary, it is a fairly cheap mod that makes the car rev quicker with stock software. Does it make more power, not sure but it seems like a little more power up top and at hwy speed.

My opinion only.

Does the after-market filter really allow the engine to breath any better then stock?

Do you mean you switched back to the stock paper filter permanently, or just for comparison?
If permanently, how come?

We had a meet tonight, and I was talking with Todd (at ESS) - gonna head by his place this weekend to have the tune done.

I put the stock filter/charcoal back in for comparison (not permanantly) and drove that way for another week. The car now has the BMC filter back in and I plan to keep it that way.
