Oil Change Interval

So after the service at 1200 miles bmw says every 15k! haha I know special sauce and all but damn. Who follows bmw's interval and changes only at 15k and just adds when neccesary? I bet most do.. I am going to be paying out of pocket in between and doing it every 7500.

If this car had a dipstick and "normal" oil change conditions, I would do it myself. But I think i'll follow the BMW recommendations as they should know better using synthetic oil. Sure wish I could look at the oil occasionally. Maybe I'll see if I can dip my finger in the oil top to check its color and consistancy.

I did oil changes on my E46 M3 every 7k miles and planning on doing the same for my E92 m3.
Its nice to have a friend work at EZ Lube and change your oil every 7k miles or less...
Still give him something on the side... With my driving I think 7-8k changes is about rite
for me... I cant live with myself changing my oil at 15k miles...

Well first of all, BMW doesn't say '15,000' miles. The mileage is calculated taking into consideration your driving habits, so mileage will vary. Secondly, you are entitled 1 free oil change every year regardless of your mileage. So in my case, since I only do maybe 10k a year I will be sticking to the single oil change interval per year. BTW changing it every 3k is just wastful no matter how much money you have, not to mention the environmental impact.

do you really think 1 man changing his oil a little earlier is making a noticeable impact on the environment!?

sounds good to me. I know these cars have high end filters and full synthetic oil nowadays can go 10-15k but I will be doing the same 5-7500 miles at most.

i think every 7500 is totally reasonable ... + you can add a bit every now and then if the level goes down ...

Just scheduled my Oil change for next week... I should be at about 7500mi. I agree that with the current synthetics there is no need for every 3k miles an oil change, but I really think waiting almost 15k miles is a bit too much especially in a high performance car unless you are a grandma driver who never goes over 60 or over 5K RPM.

I guess if you are a leaser then who cares but for me as an owner I am going to spend a little more $$$ for the peace of mind knowing that I am taking good care of my car.

Just try and read post#9 if you can, my oil change is done right sqaure in the middle of 7500-15000. You right, Dr.Ahmed, your smarter than anyone here, we get it. If you want to change your oil every 3k, knock yourself out! I still stand by my statement, that it's a total waste to change it every 3k.

you obviously cant read.

You dont have to be a doctor to know that changing oil at 5-7500 is going to save your engine life than changing it at 10-15k.

You're right you don't have to be a doctor to know something about changing the oil on this car, you just have to be a doctors 13 year old son pretending to actually own daddys car. LOL. My original post was never implying that your dad would choose to change his oil every 3k, I was merely stating my opinion and the opinion of most owners that changing it that often would be total overkill. Why you chose to thread jack your OWN thread is beyond me, but hilarious nonetheless! You FAIL! LMFAO.....
