HELP!! 2 exact cars...1 a year newer, longer warranty...more $$..whats your call?

I have found 2 of the exact same cars!!

1 is an 07 335i with 21k miles. Warranty good for another 1 year, 8 months. Price = 32k

2 is an 08 335i, with 11k miles. Warranty good for 3 years 4 months. Price = 38k.

Car #1 I have to have shipped, ~$1000, so now its a 5k difference in price.

I drive 14k a year on avg. (calculated it out for how much I have driven my current car).

If I go with option 1, how much would a 3rd party warranty cost me? Its not the original owner, it was traded to a non-bmw dealer. That would eat into the cost diff as well.

I go with option 2, its the original owner, I could have him purchase the warranty and it transfers with the car, correct? How much would that cost? Would that be worth it?

On option 2, its close enough to fly and drive it back in a day. So thats marginal.

Just wanting opinions here. Like I said, the cars have the exact same options set, so no need in really explaining that.

Option #2

Are you working an extended warranty in the deal?

Yea, I was wanting to warranty it AFTER the 50k or time ran out, or right before it ended. But from what I gather you can only extend it with BMW if you are the original owner.

Garage List
2007 E93  [0.00]
I just bought my car from my mom, so it's a private individual to private individual. She is the original owner and I just called the dealer about this same thing last week.

I thought she would have to buy the extended warranty as well, but she doesn't have to. Below are my notes from my conversation with the dealership, hope you can decipher and hope they help! They are not full, so the descriptions of what they all cover aren't complete, they are just of the examples she gave to me. (I literally just did a copy/paste.)

________________________

Maintenance covers oil changes and break jobs and wipers and
mechanical covers windows stop rolling down or transmission, complete comprehensive, doesn't cover regular maintenance, or bulbs and trim etc. does cover motor, electrical and what makes the car function....

Mom still has the factory coverage

MAINTENANCE COVERS:
4 year program that came with the car can be extended up to 6 years.
Oil change, wiper blades, service inspections, tune-ups (through the car thoroughly) brake pads and rotors, will also do periodically do brake flushes, belts, transmission flushes...

$1,695 - wait on this one,

MECHANICAL COVERS:
Everything that the maintenance doesn't cover, transmission, seals and gaskets, electrical. complete comprehensive. Doesn't cover bulbs and lamps, paint, interior, metal, carpet....drive axle, air conditioning, suspension.

Lower miles and newer the car, the cheaper the plans are. Like a life insurance policy.

If do plan now with 5,600K Miles - 6 Year Plan $1,929
If do plan later with estimated 20K miles would be - 4 years. $2,631

I would only want mechanical covered. The maintenence program is bogus if you ask me, its normal wear/tear. I want to be covered if the turbo goes, tranny goes, something along those lines. What was the price for that?

I e-mailed my dealer as well and they said only the original owner can do the extended warranty. Weird...wonder if I could go with a different dealer to get it done?

Only the original owner can purchase the extended warranty and there is also a limitation (I don't recall exactly what) that has to do with timeframes (such as if the owner purchases the extended warranty and sells the car immediately).

Whaaaat? The dealer literally told me the exact opposite of that. I asked her like 5 times, "are you sure?"

Just a word of advice... I wouldn't actually purchase the car until you see it in person. I did this once, and traveled a great distance to get to the dealer, paying tolls and travel fees. I had all of the necessary paperwork and bank loan papers, plates, etc. Once I got there, I noticed that the car had been repainted on the passenger side. To make a long story short, I left the car there and canceled the whole deal. I was pissed, but I knew I'd hate myself if I took the car. I ended up searching for a few days and traveled many hours away to look at (and buy) my current BMW. Nothing like seeing it in person. Just thought I'd share that info. Good luck with whichever you decided to go with.

As long as the car is still under factory warranty any new owner can extend it. After warranty expires you have to buy aftermarket.
