For those that say "deal with the rattles"
I was in a buddy's RAV4 the other day, u know. the "appliance" mini-ute. Absolutely silent. Then I took the wife's 3 yr old A6 for a spin this weekend. Silent. Then I get in my 1 yr old 335xi. Sounds like a POS compared to those other cars. Just venting...
Thx for listening. |

This really pisses me off.WTF is with all the rattling on the inside.
I seriously can not drive in my car with the radio off cuz either the rattling or the air coming in through the driver window apparently.

i bitched about this at my dealership. they said if they tried to look for the rattles by opening panels then more would probably surface. it's ridiculous. i told them to take apart the dash and try to fix it because it's as bad as it can get. in cold weather i feel like something inside my dash is going to break loose.
they ordered new plastic covers for the seat controls around both front seats under warranty. thank god. that's one area covered. now i need to find the rest.

The RFT's contribute to the rattles, especially if you drive rough roads. I just swapped them out and the difference is huge.

Keep in mind the stiffness of the suspension can contribute to this as well.

This is a total shot in the dark, so please forgive me if this is not at all helpful.
My last car, an Acura TSX, was known to have lots of problems with squeaks and rattles. I eventually discovered that the real problem had to do with low fault tolerances. the space in-between the various rubber gaskets around the car and the doors, windows, and sunroofs, was tiny. Any little grit go in there and the car would sound like it was falling apart. The solution was to take a good vinyl treatment (like 303, Vinylex, etc) and clean and condition every single gasket. After that the, car was vault silent. Also, you guys probably know that there is a service bulletin out for buzzing noises in the steering wheel poid.

Mine does the exact same thing! Cold weather makes it 10x worse. Does your dash rattle sound like a loud metallic rattle when you hit a bump? I still have the rear shelf rattle too. My car will also make odd noises from all different places going over any type of imperfection on the road, even something as small as a lane reflector. My dealer has basically told me that on anything except a perfectly smooth flat road noises are to be expected and they are normal. They also chalk the rear shelf creak to body flex which is "normal" in every car. They aren't any help and since there are no other dealers for over 100 miles I can't afford to have a shitty relationship with them, so I just turn the radio louder and blow out my ear drums.

I have some dashboard rattles and some door creaks, but I always wrote that off as a consequence of owning a vert.

Dashboard rattles will be fixed by the dealer under warranty. Apparently, they have to take apart the dash and replace (or add) some felt in strategic places.

less than a year and 8000 km my 335 rattles like a giant POS. Much more than my 3 year old Jetta and yes dare I say much much more than my 88 Cavalier parked up north. Useless.

08 335i owner reporting in
i try to deal with it cuz while i think all the BMW dealers are liers, i do agree with one thing - they can open up and poke around the car to find the source of noise but it will create more noise/problems in the end mine is, btw, the rattling noise from behind somewhere in the rear seat console area. i spent hours (okay probably about 20 minutes) trying to tap various parts of the console to see if anything is loose but so far no luck. |

Yeah my car sounds like shit too. I go back and forth almost every day whether or not I’m going to keep this car. pffff this sucks man. It was my first BMW and I’ve had nothing but bad experiences. It makes me mad cuz when i got this car i really had plans to keep it forever. BMW" you know. but now I’ll be turning it in two years from yesterday. Maybe I’ll get a 2011 335i but if it’s the same car...not gunna waste my time.

I've had mine for almost four months now and there's a slight tick/rattle somewhere to my left and rear when I go over rough road. It's very annoying but not annoying enough to do anything about yet. I'm just praying it doesn't get worse.

I get what sounds like a distant *Beeping* noise when my Heat is turned off. Sounds like a trailer backing up, but of course not as loud. Does anybody have this. It sounds faint and if my radio is on i cant hear it. If the heat is turned on the beeping noises stops pulsating but instead u hear a steady drone of the beep, but its so faint that if the noise stops pulsating your ears basically get use to it and it doesn't even notice it anymore.
