MSD80 or MSD81 - which do I have

I have an 08 335 with a production date of 06/08. I thought after March of 08 all MSD units were the new 81 version. I recently got a copy of a diagnostic report from my dealer that seems to show that my car has MSD80. Under the listing of control module functions the report shows MSD80. The progman version E89X-08-03-540 equates to either 30.0.1 or 30.0.2 based on previous posts that I searched. I have not had any software updates (other than factory alarm programming) and I dont seem to have the infamous turbo lag. Could the Diagnostic report be wrong on the DME version? Quite confused.

From the big-a sticky in the tuning section:

Put the last seven in at RealOEM.com. Click Browse Parts after putting in your vin, then go to section 12 (Engine Electrical System) then to 12 10 (Control Unit). You will see at least one MSD8x unit, possibly both. Click on one and see if it says part numbers, or if it says "No parts found matching your car."

However, given your production date, you've got to be MSD81.

Which makes sense. They should be compatible.

Y'all clicked "Search" after entering the last seven digits of your VIN? It should fill out the model progression for you and show you details about what batch your car was in right above the "Browse Parts" button. If not, then you did something wrong.

The MSD units should not be interchangeable, to my knowledge. I'd love to put an MSD80 in my car if that were the case.

Is this because of the history of problems with MSD81 or is it for some other reason?
