Why I LOVE BMW
so as i was browsing BMWs website tonight i see the website change to the image below. i had stepped away from using the computer for a minute. its sorta like http://www.blackle.com just one of the many reasons why I LOVE BMW!@

..... that is genius and do y'all really not know? Imagine how much energy it takes to power a BLACK pixel vs. a bright white one... a lot less... Therefore they are saving a BUNCH of energy by doing this.

This would only be true for CRT monitors, but how many of us are still using those? LCDs see no benefit from darker pixels - the fluorescent backlight is what eats the power and it shines across the screen at the same brightness no matter how light or dark the pixels are.
Some of the newer LED-backlit monitors will be able to get some benefit if they're built to modulate brightness in certain screen regions to maximize black levels, but that kind of tech is usually built into big-screen flat-panels, not computer monitors and/or laptops (whether they're LED-backlit or not). |

Fuck energy... How about finding ways to get better MPG BMW? We can get energy from water and wind. It's not a fossil fuel.
