No block heater, no hitch, no temp gauge (N52), no remote starter, no spare tire...

... no dipstick, no LSD.

I am fed up with those constraints. BMW could make money on some of these items.

What the hell were they thinking....

Yeah, that EPA wait was effing brutal. I love the car! So much so that I took a two month break from here just to go drive her around and enjoy myself. I'm just trying not to put too many miles on it, but I still find myself looking for all sorts of excuses to go for a drive.

Usually, there are plugs on the engine bottom (block), you remove it and install an electric element that makes your life more enjoyable when you start at -30/-40 deg like we facing now. Synth oil doesn't make up for it.

And for the hitch.... it is even available in Europe!!!!

Who needs a block heater when you can live in areas that rarely or never start in -30/-40 deg. That's your stupid decision. How bout you move and quit your bitching about a block heater

Theres a lot of stuff BMW has that isn't offered to BMWNA or BMW or Canada. E91 335i/xi to start.

Remote starter would have been cool. But a tow-hitch as standard equipment of a sports sedan? Come on...

I don't see any point here. Why couldn't I tow my ATV or ski-doo from time to time? I wonder if ANY competitor does not offer it.

The block heater and remote start should definitely be options. I don't understand why they sell these cars in northern latitudes without these options, or at least ability to install aftermarket heater/starters. Unless you regularly see temperatures -25F and colder during the winter (it's been -30 to -40F all week up here), you can't appreciate how useful these items are.

I was going to attach a heating element to the oil pan last weekend, but I stopped when it became apparent the power cord on the element would be right next to the downpipes. I am worried the cord will melt during the summer. I couldn't find another flat surface on the oil pan to affix a heating element.

Are there any fellow northerners who have successfully added a heater? Maybe some of the Swedes on this board can offer some advice.

No block heater - You don't need it. You are driving a BMW. It's such a rewarding experience to just get in the car, start it, and drive off while your co-workers are trying to figure out how to unplug the block heater.
No hitch - You can buy one as an option. If you need a hitch, you should have gotten a X3 or a Jeep.
No temp gauge - You don't need it. It's not like you are going to drive away the second you start your car or else you won't ask for a remote starter.
No remote starter - You don't need it either. Worst invention ever, and I never regret it even at temps of - 39C. We don't need stupid people who have to let their car sit for 20 minutes so the inside is all hot.
No spare tire - that's what run-flats are for.
No dipstick - When is the last time you check the oil in your car? The electronic one is sufficient if you are not going to check it very often.
No LSD - Can't help you on this one. If you want it you should've brought a different car.

All understood? Bon!.
I like this guy hahaha

LOL, Me too.

You got the 328i, if you push the car hard enough to need a temp gauge, you should have gotten the 335i

Does TFM say not to let your car sit running when warming up, but rather to drive it so all the fluids warm up uniformly?

he makes valid arguments, some people want to be in control of their cars instead of some computer telling him everything is A OK!

At the end this couple comes to a mutural agreement that they will buy a BMW 328i.

A series of events follow the minute this family takes delivery of the car:
1. His wife hates to sit in a cold freezing car but there is no block heater for the car and no remote starter is offered for BMW.
2. He wants to know when the car warms up so he can go WOT to pass every other cars on the road but there is no temp gauge.
3. She wants to haul things but there is no hitch availabe as standard equipment.
4. He wants more performance but there is no LSD.
5. She wonders if the dealer ripped them off because there is no spare tire in the trunk and the tools are missing.
6. He wants to be the Saturday mechanic but there is no dip stick so he doesn't know where to check oil.
LOL man you crack me up
