CAS Module Fried
Hey,
I posted this in the Canada sub-section already but want to see if anyone elsewhere had the same problem. Back in October, my car had a steering wheel malfunction icon displayed in red on the dashboard. So I thought, ok, steering wheel column must be replaced. But no, my SA @ BMW Autohaus in Thornhill, ON informed me that the problem was the CAS module being fried. He informed me that since I have an aftermarket amplifier (that powers the subwoofer), I would have to pay out of pocket and warranty wouldn't cover it. After replacing the CAS module, my car wouldn't start. This is due to the fact that it took them such a long time to reprogram the car. My car was at Autohaus for like a month. Now, here's the funny part. When I went to pick up my car, I asked for the old parts back. The SA gave them to me after searching for them. Attached to the parts was a dealer warranty claim form. Ha! I guess the dealer was trying to charge me as well as claiming warranty from BMW Canada! Anyone else had a similar problem before? Thanks.

That's unethical and borderline illegal. You should contact BMWNA and inform them of the situation and make sure that the dealer did not double dip.

What would BMW NA have to do with this? They have no jurisdiction or influence.

So what would you do? Who would you contact? Is it a complete waste of time to inform BMW NA?

Problem
well I have a similar..ish problem to yours. My car keeps displaying all sorts of error warnings, ranging from abs to steering to traction control. I took it to BMW Malta and got a software upgrade, apparently to solve the problem. This proved to be useless and took it back for another test. So far we got nowhere as the car had too many warnings and was proving difficult to trace the error. It could be the CAS. However, I am due to take it back as soon as the first error comes up to determine where the exact fault is. btw, the car is 2 and a half years old.
