Is my trunk broken? and what does this latch do.....

So i have a 2007 335 coupe, and until today never really thought of this, but is my trunk supposed to actually pop open when i hit the key fob button, push the open button in the cabin, or touch the black rubber thing on the trunk, or is it just supposed to unlatch. I could swear on my friends five series the trunk pops open, but mine just unlatches, it doesn't swing open. Is that proper operation? Also, I noticed this weird plastic latch thing on the roof of the trunk next to the vanity light in between the two fold down seat latches. I asked my service advisor what it was last week and he had no clue. I took some pictures with my blackberry so yes they are crappy, but please bear with me. Just wondering if any of you guys have it in your trunk and what is its purpose? it seems like it is just there for no reason and i'm so damn curious to why its there lol. cheers guys

the trunk isnt supposed to swing open it just unlatches. as far as that plastic thing, i use it to hold up the lid for bottom compartment where the spare tire is supposed to go.

I know, it annoys me not knowing what something on my car does I think z22z explanation of what the latch is for might be right, it does hold the trunk floor/lid open when you lift it up, just checked it.

i think he's right. when i had my e90, there was a notch where the plastic thing is where the bottom lid would snap into place. I couldnt find the notch in the e92, so I'm assuming that is what this little plastic thing is for.

you know the lid for your compartment? this latch holds onto it if you require it to be held open

Both of these questions have been answered many many timed before.

No, the trunk does not open all the way, it simply unlatches.

Yes, the little plastic catch is to hold up the floor of the trunk/boot so you can access underneath and keep both hands free.

Next time
