Thumbs down Dealer Pratices that assume that you are a fool

Best one; from BMW Laval, Quebec.

"Sir, we have to deduct 3000$ from your trade-in value to make it CPO, so the next owner will have a 100000 miles [for free, thanking us.]"

Are they all this thick?

I felt insulted.

If they (dealer) think that you'll believe what they're telling you then you can damned well bet they're going to come at you with that intention.

Yeah, they are that thick .....

You're looking at this from the wrong perspective. It has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not they think you're a fool. They're just programmed to get every penny out of you that they can possibly get. You could be a Nobel prize winner and you'd get the same schpeal. And they're not "thick" either. They just figure if they don't try to soak you they'll miss that rare (maybe it's not so rare?) opportunity to separate a fool from his money...

Sorry but there is no excuse for this kind of pretext. Dishonest and disrespectful.

I would prefer ... "hey Mr Saintor normally, you'd get 30000$ but inventory is high, demand is low so I can't offer more than 27000$."

No, they assume we are stupid.

Sadly this has been, more often than not, the normal scenario for most .....

Actually at the moment supply is low and demand is high on used cars, so he can't pull that one

A dealer looked up the value of my trade on KBB web site and showed it to me on their screen. It was over $2000 less than what I figured using the same site just a few days prior. This was going to be the trade-in value they were offering!

Funny thing, when I had them go through it again with the correct options and everything, wouldn't you know it, it came up to a much higher value.

So did they just not know any better when they failed to select the right options or was this done intentionally so they could reduce the value of my trade? Hmm.

They definitely do that intentionally. Unfortunately, especially in the US, people don't overlook that stuff and take the dealer's word for it, which is why they get pounded in the rear when they buy a car/trade a car in.

KBB means next to nothing, BMW dealers use Manheim

I'm waiting to be told my speedo is optimistic and my car has travelled even further than it says because my tyres expand at speed.
