itouch Compatibility

I am on my second 335, my first came with the 6fl option, so I am familiar with that system. My current 335 had the dealer installed ipod option which works very well with a normal ipod, album information is readily displayed on the iDrive screen. I recently decided to leave my regualr ipod in my Denon dock for home use only, and use an itouch in the car. When I plug the itouch in to the dealer installed option, a message comes up on the itouch screen "a accsessory will not charge", my thinking is that it is telling me that while I will be able to play music from the itouch, it will not charge. This is strange as the regular ipod would charge with the dealer installed option. My albums and tracks still display on the iDrive when using the itouch, and the music plays fine. Anyone else have experience with this situation? Is there a way to get my itouch to charge? Also, the dealer installed option places the cable in the glove compartment, has anyone tried alternative mounting options? Thanks much....e93; Sparkling Graphite; Sport package; Premium package, iDrive.

Do you mean the iPod Touch? Apple does not make an iTouch.

It amazes me when people lack the ability to even know the name of the product they purchased.

First gen ipod touches and iphones could be charged via firewire and usb, the second gen has specific software built in stopping everything but only special usb devices to charge it. apparantly BMW isn't that special.

Apple changed how the newer generation iPod Touch and iPhone 3G charge. The old versions charged via Firewire but newer generations only through USB. This has been discussed on the Apple iPhone forum.

Who really cares if someone wants to call it the iTouch? It's not like you don't know what they're talking about so it obviously makes sense to an extent.

iTouch is a different product made by Logitech though and when requesting help/technical support, it is best to be as precise as possible. Getting the right name of the product is a good first step.

My second-gen Touch works in my '08 Charges and everything.

S/W is 2.2.0 if that matters.

Scosche makes a $30 adapter to make it work. The new iPod/Phone products need a 5 volt charge, the old ones used a 12 volt charge.

Thanks for the assistance, I will attempt to get the adapter from Scosche. By the way, thanks to all who provided constructive feedback, this is why I visit e90 Post. I may have mistakenly called the device an iTouch, however, everyone knew what I was talking about and I will be more specific in the future, but really, did I need all of the sarcastic comments, no!
