The Pipe Dream exhaust mod

Here is a mod whose main virtue is its low cost.

It would be interesting to view the internal structure of the muffler to see where passageways between chambers could be opened up and/or shaped pieces introduced to channel the flow. If the goal is to reduce backpresure without rigid sound level constraints, most likely a hobbiest could handle it. There are plenty of stock mufflers out there now with little demand for them. Someone could cut the seam on a few and experiment with the internals until the right combination of mods is found. This would be preferable to making external changes and could turn into a nice little sideline for someone.

I'd be embarassed to have that under my BMW. Looks like something the civic crowd would try.

Why don't you simply replace the muffler with a straight pipe which is more elegant.

If that is the result you want just cut out the stock muffler and use a straight pipe in its place. You could also use a Magna flow canister in the place of the stock one. Either of those would look preety cheap but it would get what you want. I figure the stock is a better way to go.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't do this to my own car. The proposed mod was more tongue-in-cheek than serious. Not every idea is a good one, but it is important to throw them out there. Someone may find a seed to build on.
