Winter...

Anyone going to park their precious hot rod indoors through the winter? I shall.

Yep! Just picked up a '92 4Runner for winter duty.

Started detailing the 135i for its hibernation period, and ordered a grip of parts tonight as well! Then that pesky black paint on the 3'er will have to be addressed....

^I'm thinking of approaching a material store so they might recommend a seamstress who can produce a 100% cotton/flannel cover to drape over the hot rod. As it turns out, post cleaning, JB looks fabulous for about 30 minutes, after that, the dust-apparitions gather, deposit a haze on the car, even in the garage. Nonetheless, JB is worth it to us sadistic black masochists. Gonna' git' some tire cradles as well, flat-spots will never do.

Like you, while the hot rod sleeps, stored accessories such as aluminum pedals and M-badged sills may be installed.

Can't, it's a daily driver. Eight miles each way 4 days a week.

Mine is daily driver too. Unfortunately, there's tons of leaves and dirt on the street, and wheel well and the side of the car is heart-breakingly dirty.

There's no reason to park a car like this; it's meant to be driven.

Good to hear from you again, Ty. Yeah, it's unfortunate he'll be parked for some months, but, that's life. Plus, the alley which faces my garage is dirt, mud when it rains.:iono::wink:

That, my friend, is what the optional mud guards are for.

I will keep it available, as long as it is above freezing, Any chance of snow or black ice - she stays home. Winter tires or not, it's about the other idiots on the road with summer tires and bad driving skills. Simply not worth the risk to me.

That's exactly my train of thought.

If the weather is real ugly I'm not driving the 3.

No way, I'm driving in snow and everything. Next week my SE KM 11 with Bridgestone Blizzaks should arrive. Here in Germany it's a law to have snow tires or all season tires. Drivers here have common sense, unlike back in the states.
Happy motorin'

Been a bit slow around the PNW of late, how's everyone holding up with the snow?:iono:

The hot rod is officially hibernating as of three weeks past, time to open the garage door, fire-up the beast, idle til' operating temp is achieved, move the car one foot so as maintain the tires, followed by hooking-up the trickle-charger.

What say ye?

Can't even pull the cars out to start them up, they would slide on down the hill.

This "Arctic Freeze" has made the purchase of my Jeep more than worthwhile.

I wouldn't do that. When you operate an engine, the oil typically gets moist from combustion for the first half hour or so. Ongoing operation (not just idling or reving) will dry the oil out, and lead to less production of harmful acids, but just warming it up will add water.

My 135i has been parked for the last going on three weeks. Good thing for the AWD Pontiac (Toyota) Vibe my wife owns, and I get to drive in this slop for her.

Yeah you should really wait for a dry day every few weeks or so and take it out for a backroad cruise. letting it idle to temp isn't great for the engine and is never recommended, but you don't want to let a car sit for months on end either unless you've made special preparation to do so.

We got a decent amount (2-3") on the north end of the island on Sunday night.
