Rear mount bike rack
Anybody else have one of these?
Fits great - looks great... but 2 months in i'm very annoyed that I cant use it as apparently there should have been some relay switch supplied with it to enable the electrics. Anyone else had this? Thanks K |

I'd be too terrified about the paintwork!

Sorry to ask, but is this an official BMW bike rack. Do you have any more details on it? I would be very interested in this.
As for being scared about the paintwork, don't be. I've been running one on my Z4 for the last three years. Just buy some clear vinyl from a sign maker and stick it down on the contact spots. You can't see it from more than 1 metre away. Perfect solution G |

Yes its the BMW one - you'll find it in the accessorys catologue. Not used it as no lights.. v. annoying.
There is an upright bar to ensure it gets no where neat the paint, and it locates in the two factory fit 'rack prep' holes. Brilliant rack - if only they'd remembered the electrics. Had a call friday to say I should have it this week.... BUT... it is apparently not included in the cost! £65 for the part (at cost) plus labour to fit! WHat a Joke! - Letter to BMW cust services coming. will let you know the final bill and take some pics later in the week. |

Letters to customer service often work wonders. I've already used one to great effect when BMW tried to bump my delivery date back by 6 weeks.

Couple of questions if you don't mind: 1 - How long does it take to put on the car and take off? 2- Cost of the rack? 3- Assume you can still open the boot with bikes on the car? 4- How many bikes will it hold? Thanks again Graeme |

grrr... still no part!
1. Took just a couple of mins to attach the rack and secure it. though with the many straps and clips I suspect it may take longer to secure the bikes to the rack. Electrics meant i played around for hours... and then took it of again! Not put it on since. 2. I paid about £250 i think, plus £60 at order for the holes in the bumper and subframe (with covers) 3. Yes - plus there is an upright A frame to ensure the bikes get nowhere near. 4. Holds 2 bikes. It is locked to the car once on, and the bike clamps are locked too. Sorry - bit longer for pic's - will take some without electrics if i get a chance. |

Update:
Relay is now fitted (at cost to the garage).... but... Whatever they did permenantly disabled the parking sensors. They should turn off just whist the rack is on.. no car again today. Hopefully all will be finished after today - just 4 months to sort it... impressive!! |
