KW coilovers stolen at DHL

So, just relaying a story since it may impact others around here.

I ordered a set of KW v2 coilovers for my 135i which were promptly shipped directly from Germany. I was able to track the order which made it all the way to a morning scan at my local DHL loading facility, here in Santa Clara. It was confirmed scanned - then never heard from again. That was this past Monday, it is now Friday.

DHL initiated the whole search procedure, yada yada, and eventually called me to say they simply cannot find my 70lbs package and to tell my vendor to file a claim. I won't mention the vendor since they've been cool and I don't want to imply they did anything wrong.

However... when I did talk to the vendor they were very clear that in the last month or so they have had SIX SETS of KW coilovers stolen out of DHL. Of course I am using the word "stolen" based on a hunch, especially since with customs involved the full product description and value is on the box. Nobody at DHL admits they are stolen, just "missing".

So you may want to make an effort to employ someone like FedEx or UPS that is a bit more trustworthy when shipping. No idea why these are so desirable, but the thiefs probably have a good fence. Six sets (from just one vendor, who knows about other vendors) is not a small-time deal. The vendor even mention one of their customers got the first set stolen as well as the replacements!

Hey,

I was one of those 6 (I didn't realize there were so many). I actually ended up with TWO sets of coilovers for different cars (e46 v1s and e92 v2s), when I had ordered the e82 v2s. I sent them both back. It took a Month + week plus a bunch of calling to DHL and the vendor to get it straightened out. Hopefully it works out for you.

Their pickup office is right near San Jose Minetta Airport right? I don't particularly like DHL, but their a tad cheap than USPS, UPS, FedEx

My UPS store owner (I keep a box there for packages) just called to confirm that they were delivered today. Apparently they were "found". Good news I hope. Still need to go checkup to make sure the box is in original seal and has the right stuff in it. Still very, very odd for that volume of trouble.

Well they did apparently "find" them, and found others too. The packing was weird. I love how they say "well you can see that they still had the straps on" as if straps can't be taken off and put back on. Clearly the box had been opened before, but that may have just been customs.

I am not expert enough to tell beyond that, but it does look like they are fine and all is included. Good news as it turns out. Lesson learned - complain loudly at them!

I work for UPS and people do steal things, usually something small, and pretty much they all get caught, fired, and prosecuted, but to steal something like coilovers would almost be impossible. At my center there is a guard post where people have get checked it and out. Every bag is checked, and everyone has to take everything out of their pockets and belts removed before they get scanned with a metal detector. More than likely it's a missorting error on DHL's part. They probably had a kink in their system where the package got sorted back and forth to two or more hubs over and over again. But then again I have found packages that where supposed to be delivered 6 months ago hiding in my center. The wonders of the shipping industry, you would be amazed at what you can find. And trust me, DHL, USPS, UPS, and FedEx are all made from the same mold.

Well it appears as though all the parts (most?) were found and delivered. Is very freaky to have something as specific as big, heavy coilovers all coming from Germany so frequently "lost" after making it successfully through customs and cross country to their near-final destination.

But all that matters is that they showed up. Assuming it was an accident assumes either 1) many many packages get lost like this for that many of just this type of item to be lost, or 2) the freakiest of coincidences that many instances of this big, heavy item are lost in a similar fashion.

All's well that ends well though - hopefully an improved system benefits.

I feel you man.

About a year ago I shipped a set of wheels and tires via DHL. 3 arrived and 1 was lost. I dont know how you lose a 50lb wheel and tire, especially when its sitting with 3 others just like it, but they managed to. Filing a claim and getting it resolved was quite an ongoing process as well. Needless to say I will not be using DHL in the future.

I can't believe that! The exact same thing happened with Jon's set of KW V2s that were shipped from Southern California via DHL. We finally received it after several days of haggling with DHL but it was quite a struggle.

We exclusively use FedEx and USPS for a reason, I never knew DHL was this bad.

Funny....

The first set of KW Coilovers for our 335i were stolen from that very office 3 weeks ago.

The replacement set arrived here in good fashion, though. And I think DHL paid KW for the claim.

That's really funny, though, that the guys at the local DHL are specifically stealing KW's

Haha Nick you beat me to it. But yeah. DHL is a joke. No wonder they went bankrupt in this country. I remember one time they couldn't find my house for 3 days. They kept calling me from the truck and asking where this "new housing development" is. I told them the house has been there since the 1940's. They disagreed.

That worries me, trucks are supposed to have cushy suspension to prevent our packages from being shaken around

Yes, we wouldn't want our packages shaken during shipping, an otherwise innocuous activity.
