Painted Carbon Fiber spoiler
Ok...I really like the profile of the carbon fiber spoiler but I just don't like the looks (due to dark carbon fiber color) on the Montego cars. For those that have it, no offense, but to me the dark color just does not compliment the blue color very well. Maybe it looks better in person but in the pictures I've seen, I don't think it looks nearly as nice as it does on white and silver. So, I am thinking about getting the spoiler painted to match my car and installing that way. Any thoughts?
Sure some flaming is coming but I'm a big boy and can take it.

Yea bud, the carbon look isn't for everyone. Personal i love it. I have a carbon hood, roof, trunk lid, bumper overlay, diffuser, and more, on a Titanium Silver 335i. I have a Ti Silver 135i on it's way and i'm doin the same thing.
It's a personal preference and it's what YOU like, don't worry about what anyone else thinks. |

I like the carbon fiber on silver and white, just not on the Montego. Thanks for your opinion. Maybe if it was blue fiber it would blend better and maybe it looks better in person but being overseas and not having any examples locally to see in person, I have to rely on pictures. Thanks again for your thoughts. I am really leaning towards getting it painted.

I've thought about this as well. However, I'm not sure how well it would look if it was painted to match. I guess I'd have to see pictures of it before I decided anything.

I'm subscribing to this because I would love to see some pics. I am definitely considering doing this on my car.

I've got the CF one on my car. I think it goes pretty well with the shadowline trim and mirrors. I think it would like fine painted as well though.
These pics aren't great angles, but it's all I've got right now. |

I think it will have to do with the color scheme you have going and whether you have shadowline trim or not. If you have the shadowline trim and dark color rims then leave the carbon fiber the color it is. If you dont have shadowline paint it. I you have brightly colored or stock rims then paint it. Just my .02cents

I was going to order from Dan and have it painted before shipped but he is not sure if he can ship it or not because of the size and mailing retrictions with USPS to an APO (military base overseas) address. He is checking. If he can, then I think I might go ahead and get it painted. My car won't be to me until the end of July but I'll post pics if I am able to get this done.
Slick, I'd love to see pics of your spoiler mounted. Please share when done!!

Jeremy,
In your pics, it doesn't seem to get lost in the shadows as much as in other pics I've seen. I guess it depends on the view. Looks good though.

I'm not against painting it at all, but I don't think it looks bad in black. I've gotten a lot of comments about it over the last couple of weeks, but I think a lot of people are just wowed by real CF in general, so that's not really a good indication. The mirrors look a lot better in black IMO, or at least on a car with shadowline trim. I'm still on the fence about the blacked out grills. I think I like the 128i's grills, with the black centers and chrome ring, better than the shadowline or stock grills. I'm thinking about pulling them apart and putting the chrome rings on the black centers. On the other hand, I want a set of BBS wheels with the black diamond finish, and I think the black stuff will look better after that. Now I just need about $3k to spare. :roundel: |

The Diamond Black wheels would really bring it all together. The other reason I might paint it is just to be a little different to make my car "my own" so to speak. I guess I should get me car here first huh?! Thanks for your thoughts and I look forward to seeing your new pics. I really like the spoiler (BMW should have done it from the start) and just have to pick a way to go and do it.

I might be interested, but I don't see any pricing in that thread. I'm guessing they're not cheap. If they're anywhere close in price, BBS gets my money. These are hard to beat: |

Umm....there are prices in the thread...unless there was an edit since last night. ~2k for a set of 18" staggered...a little bit more for 19's...weights is about 5 pounds lighter than stock.

You're right. I went back and found it. You should edit that first post and put the pricing in.

hmmm, the colour is much darker then ur sig, so the CF doesnt stand out too much, but if u arent happy with the look i would paint it just cause its blue, any other colour i think i would leave it bare CF
edit: ps you double parked, make sure u dont get keyed, lol |

It's not double parked. The space next to me is a "No parking" area because there's not enough room for another car before a garage. Here's another shot of the same spot from a different angle, with my old car in it. |
