Tarifa, Tarifa, where for art thou?
I think there are a few of us with cars on the M/V Tarifa that has left Savannah, Georgia in the last few days.
Other than Vesseltracker.com and sailwx.com (both of which are pretty useless now) does anyone know another tracking site that covers the trip Down Under? Next stop - Brisbane on 30/06/08! |

apparently mine is on the same ship. disappointing it can't get here before the luxury car tax increase kicks in.
I haven't been able to find any more data on the ship location, how did you find out it was in Georgia?

oh... what? so you'll get hit with the new LCT rate if your car arrives after x date even though you've signed the contract etc prior to that?

Well, the LCT increase has yet to pass the senate vote, but there's a 99% likelyhood that it will. So, any of us taking delivery after July 1, regardless of order date or deposit, will have to pay the increased tax.

Can anyone explain why the good ship Tarifa leaves Zeebrugge, Belgium..nips up to Bremerhaven, Germany to load up our cars and then pops back to Zeebrugge before making its way across the Atlantic? Did it forget something?

I, too, will be overly pedantic and mention that "wherefore" actually means "why" and not "where"...

yes, quite right. the word "wherefore" replaces emphasis in the question to the essential nature of the object. in our context it would demonstrate the original poster's frustration not from the whereabouts of the ship but its character instead. that's actually quite funny, but as usual i guess i am the only one laughing!

Any increase in statutory charges are at the purchaser's risk. I checked the contract when they announced the lct increase. As long as the money goes to health care or education I can live with the increase but it'll probably go to some over priced govt advertising campaign!

Don't get too hopeful - just pray it's not too windy on the day the ship is due in port. My buddy, the ship's pilot, reckons because the car carriers have such tall, flat sides they won't bring them in if the wind exceeds 33 knots as they are too underpowered to control.

its from the brisbane port site. the tarifa is in active status there on berths - fisherman island no 1 and 2; ostensibly both are being used to service her!

I see. Didn't realise there were individual Port sites. I've just been using the Wallenius shipping lines site.
